My wife and I found Hokkaido here on Maps. She likes sushi, I'm more of a hibachi guy. My wife's sushi was very good, according to my wife, who I wouldn't dream of disagreeing with. I had the Steak hibachi and I can tell you that it was definitely very good. I asked for medium rare on the steak and it was perfectly cooked. The sauce was very tasty, but didn't overwhelm the bites of steak. The same sauce was on the veggies they were delicious. The fried rice wasn't crowded with additional veggies, making the flavor of the fried rice come through. In short, my meal was excellent. For both meals, portions were generous. I was able to have my leftovers for dinner. Our server was great. He was attentive without being annoying. That in itself is a rare thing Prices weren't cheap, but for the quality, flavors, and portion size, we'll worth the price. Atmosphere was perplexing. Not bad, just unusual. The decor is authentic. The music wasn't too loud, but I've never heard hip hop in a Japanese restaurant. Im not complaining about it, I just found it odd. Im not a fan of TVs in restaurants. They had a daytime talk show on. The guest that Dat was the original Honey Boo Boo. Eehhh. Over all, it's definitely on our "go back" list. If you haven't tried Hokkaido, you are late.

Service: I arrived on a Sunday night about 7pm. There were about 10 customers seated. I was seated right away and waited only a few minutes before the server came over with the menu and took my drink order. She came back right away and I ordered Edamame and Teriyaki chicken. The Teriyaki chicken came with soup, salad, and rice. It was served promptly and hot. Food: The Edamame was hot and salted. They could have boiled it in stronger salt water in my opinion. Nonetheless, it was good. The beans were perfect, with just a slight crunch. To my surprise, the Teriyaki chicken was served on a sizzling iron "plate", ala fajitas. The sliced chicken was on a bed of sliced onions mixed with teriyaki sauce and more teriyaki sauce was poured over the top of the chicken. It was very good. The other items were good but not outstanding. The soup was Miso soup and the salad was from a bag. The Japanese fried rice was pretty good. The portions were large. I could have easily shared with someone. All that being said, I will definitely be back to try some of their other entrées. One item of note. They describe themselves as a Japanese and Thai restaurant. The Thai entrées are very limited (currys and noodles). I would like to see some traditional stir fry dishes such as Cashew Chicken.

The sushi is absolutely amazing! Fresh and always delicious! Service is great! Love the vibe! This is the ONLY place I go to get sushi! The sushi is top tier Whether it's dine in or take out. And I have ordered takeout numerous times here! There's a waiter I've had a few times named stephan or Stefan. I don't know how to spell it, but he is the best! He has suggested amazing options for us in the past, and when I come to dine in, I always hope he's there! The rolls that are my absolute go to are the lobzilla roll, Pokémon roll, shrimp tempura, crouching dragon roll, Naruto roll, hanada roll, hokkaido special roll, and I always get an order of their squid salad and their sea weed salad. This is literally my order every time I eat there. And they offer a military discount! Oh, and their Thai chili crispy chicken 😋😋 yummmm. Definitely try that, too! If you're looking for great sushi or hibachi, i certainly recommend coming here! It's the best place for sushi in the area!

Oh God! Finished eating. I'm very happy I tried this place. I think I found a new favorite!

So first off I ordered to go, I have extra kids with me today and didn't want to do that whole evolution, so I opted to get it to go.

I took my time and even showed up late to get my food. I stood there for a while and no one came to greet me or even ask if I needed to be seated. After a while of standing behind 2 others who were also there waiting for someone to greet them, I decided to barge ahead to the register and ask about my order... it wasn't done yet. I was a little annoyed, it's my first time here and they're off to a bad start! Lol. So I sat down on nearby and waited. I waited a little bit then asked again, they said it wasn't done yet. Ok, come on man! I'm hungry, the wife's hungry, the kids are berserkers! Lol.

Finally they bring my food up and then rush off, I stood there for a second, no one paid anymore attention to me, so I just politely said thank you very much as I left. Wow were they obviously understaffed for dinner time lol.

It's a good sign they were busy, and a bad sign they were so rushed they were having trouble keeping up....

ALL SAID AND DONE! OMG, the food is so good. My wife and kids are diggin in and my face was stuffed. I've been looking for good quality Japanese and I'm happy to say I found one other than Osaka that I like!

The fried rice is "lighter" than most places, and at first it threw me off. I'm used ro more...stuff, and soy sauce, but on the healthier side of my life I am actually very happy with it. And the chicken and veggies are the same way, very "basic" and not a ton of sauces making the veggie and chicken flavors, I was pleasantly surprised!

The crab rangoons were so amazing!! I really wish i had ordered more! The pink lady roll and the crouching dragon are my absolute new favs! I want more, I'm already kinda full but I could easily sit and put down another round.

In spite of the crappy initial interaction I had, I WILL be back. I hope next time the service is better, I'll try at another time to see if it's better or the same. But I kind of don't care...the food was that good for all of us, it's worth it.

I WILL be back regardless of service as long as the quality stays the same, I don't care! I'll just order take out and show...

I've been debating if I should write this review for two years. Mostly because Hokkaido is a hidden gem. This is THE SPOT for the best sushi in Augusta. I've tried many of the places in town and none have come close to the sushi at this place. You wouldn't expect it either. I love finding these hole in the wall places that no one knows about for many reasons, but mainly because they're never crowded and I have a family of foodies!

I used to love a different, upscale local sushi restaurant that had a "fusion" vibe, but the quality of the food is hit or miss. But not Hokkaido! This place always plates the best rolls and allows you to customize their menu rolls to suit your palate. The sushi menu is huge (they even have a hidden menu with many more rolls).

The service at the restaurant is beyond excellent... Especially, Stefan (I hope I spelled that right). He has paid exceptional attention to our table on many occasions and we always leave a great tip for his perfect attentiveness. I recommend you ask for him for the best service.

Also, this place is very small but can still accommodate parties of up to 12 (yes, we did that!). Not to mention, we take our kids here and it's still a nice meal! The atmosphere is relaxing and calming. Intimate really. It's the perfect spot for a date (or double date) but also great for a family dinner of excellent sushi (or salmon, or hibachi, or anything else on the menu).

So, I relentlessly write this review to finally allow Augusta to know about Hokkaido Restaurant. If you visit, please don't tell your friends... Keep it a secret for a while. You can bring them eventually. I love that I've never had to wait more than a few minutes to get a table here and I know that the flood gates will open once people start going here. Please just eat quickly and leave if I...
