You've made it. You have found the promised land of the perfect banh mi. The bread is EXCEPTIONAL. Ive sampled all the major banh mi shops in Georgia, Texas, and California, and this bread quality is top tier. The filling is fantastic and the price is far lower than up north Georgia (Duluth). Value to quality, it is a gem.
The pho ap chao is a crispy flattened rice noodle as a base and a seafood stir fried assortment on top. You can liken it to a pizza of sorts. The crispy base acts as the perfect pairing for the 'filling' on top. The thinly sliced carrots match the mouth feel of the other vegetables which is awesome because I hate carrots and it makes the eating experience that much better.
Beef pho: the broth is full of flavor, the pho noodles have the right bite and the beef is sliced at the right thinness. If you were to choose a classic pho taste that every Vietnamese person would agree to, it is this.
Cracked rice with pork chop: it's huge. You can eat this over two meals. The pork chop is very tender and excellently marinated. The crispy fried egg is awesome sitting on top of the cracked rice. History lesson this dish was popular among lower income vietnamese farmers. The 'cracked rice' being part of the dish was because rice farmers could not sell cracked/split rice grains to customers, whom demanded the higher quality, unsplit rice. Very very well done and plated, the care is apparent.
Dessert: the flan is in the french style and is at the perfect sweetness that lends to eating more and more. It is balanced in creaminess along with the level of firmness in bite. The yogurt is also a classic flavor that all Vietnamese people grew up with and loved. There is a lot in the cup, sharing is caring.
There is no "catered to localized taste" here. If you came here for the 100% authentic, full flavored experience, Banh Mi Dang delivers it in spades. Up in the Duluth area, I would say the dishes are of a slap-dash style, while at Banh Mi Dang, there exists a level of detail and care that went into every dish I...
Read moreWe tried Bahn Mi Dang for our first time. Simply the best Vietnamese food we’ve found anywhere around Augusta, and beyond. Everything we had was full of delicious flavors and so yummy. We had the shrimp springs rolls with peanut sauce (inset drool emoji), fried shrimp app, and bahn mi. I had the tofu bahn mi and my husband had the first one listed on the menu. Some meaty thing that he loved. We can wait to go back and try the pho. Customers there told us it was out of this world good. The first review I read raved about the food but did mention not to go for the service. I must say, it was slow, but we were not in a rush so that was no problem for us. If time is an issue, I’d call in your order and get it to-go. Other than not being fast (which again was not an issue for us), the staff is super friendly. Highly recommend. Can’t wait yo go back.
2nd visit: I went back for the pho. It was the best I’ve found, in my endless search, since I moved away from my favorite Vietnamese restaurant. Looked kind of boring but I was hooked after my first bite. The flavors will blow your mind. It is so good. Service was speedy this time. Super...
Read moreWe love Banh Mi Dang! One of our quick lazy dinners is when we look at each other and go banh mi? ..yep. banh mi. It's about 6 bucks per sandwich and theyre nearly a foot long.
The #1 has 5 spice roasted pork with carrots, cilantro cucumber and some other veggies all on a crisp cold hoagie bun. We love the super juicy meat but the unexpected crunchy bits are also really satisfying...as long as your expecting it 🤣
The #2 has a sweeter marinated meat that doesn't have any of that crunch. However all of the veggies and the bread are the same.
We couldn't decide which we like more and personally these are a super refreshing delicious meal in my opinion.
We did try the banh gio once, which is a triangular banana leaf wrapped rice ball with a boiled quails egg inside. We wanted to try something new but we honestly couldn't do this one. It was DELICIOUS but the rice had a gel like texture. Imagine jello- made of greasy rice. I know this is a popular veitnamese street food but the textures are really alien to American palettes.
Might not do that one again but otherwise this place is...
