UPDATE October 2023: It had been a minute since we last went to Wonderful Inn. It closed down during the scam erp I mean pandemic, and evidently changed hands a couple of times in the years immediately following. Some friends of ours recently raved about the meal they had there, so we figured it was time to go back!
There have been some slight changes to the menu, for example, my former favorite, mu-shoo shrimp is no longer offered. That's OK, there's plenty more good stuff to be had that we remembered from years past, and the prices hadn't increased much, either. Like before, the food arrived piping hot and freshly prepared; the veggies were nice and crunchy. Even though there was very little change in the décor of the main dining area, it was very clean and neat. Still, it would appear that the bulk of their business is carry-out. We prefer to dine in because the portions of the entrees are so generous, we're able to take the rest to go and make 2-3 more meals out of it. I felt a need to go and support the local Chinese businesses (the docent informed me that there are 4 Chinese families still in Evanston, and all of them own restaurants). The food was very very good and authentic - I got it to go and went back to the Joss House and sat in the garden by the koi pond to eat. The decor of the restaurant is simple and looks more like an all-American diner, but it's clean and comfortable. In the unlikely event that I return to Evanston, I will definitely stop...

We got the daily combo which comes with, a cream cheese wonton, an eggroll, chicken lo mein, ham fried rice, your choice of 8 different entrees, and a cup of soup (egg drop or hot and sour). We got the cashew chicken for the entree, and everything was fantastic except the ham fried rice which was tasty, just really unusual and I'm not used to it.
Portions were enough for us to have leftovers for lunch or dinner tomorrow night (or maybe...
