Drove 45 mins to eat with family, so many issues.
My nephew, 11,(who has texture issues)ordered his meal and did not realize when his mom ordered it the only ever time he got it asked for the syrup/sauce on the side, when it came he took one bite said it tasted weird we figured out the syrups were on it told him so and he tried a second bite and could not handle it. We asked to have it remade because he did try to eat it but could not handle it. Explain to the waitress and apologized that we did not catch it when he ordered the first time and asked if he could get it plain. She said yes but it would take 10-15 mins there were maybe 5 tables in there but we said that’s fine we understood. She comes back several mins later and says they will not remake it she has to put in a new order and we have to pay for both, we were not happy about it but again, he needed to eat and genuinely tried it. So we agreed to it. When my niece ordered she asked for the turkey club then asked if she could have Mac n cheese as her side, The waitress said she could so my niece said she would like Mac n cheese instead of fries or chips. When her plate was brought out she had chips on the plate. My niece politely said “oh they gave me chips i wanted Mac n cheese” the waitress said “oh yeah that’s fine they just put chips on there anyway im going to get the Mac n cheese” when the bill came their bill was charged for an extra side of Mac n cheese and when they asked about why the extra charge the waitress became even more rude than she had been from the start and said that she ordered an extra side and we explained the interaction while ordering, never once was there a mention of a charge. The waitress refused to take it off the bill or let us speak with a manager as she was the “shift lead”
We had 6 people 4 of us had water, 1 coffee, 1 tea, 1 coke. My husband and brother n law both asked for refills for us at separate points, they only received a refill even though the tables cups were all empty, the first time we assumed she didn’t notice everyone else, when the second one asked she was annoyed and we felt it best not to ask again.
She was very rude throughout the entire meal, when talking about the issue with the bill she became even more so. When she said “im sorry you are mad” my sister said “you really aren’t we would like to pay and leave” she walked away saying something along the lines of “good for you” or “good on you”. We had to ask another waitress to take our payment so we could leave. We did not leave a tip on account of how rude she was during the entire meal, it was not an issue of the place being swamped, as stated there were maybe 5 tables, with at least 3/4 other waitress’ it was well after the morning rush, we were in no way difficult, we did not leave a giant mess nor were we rude back, astonished at her crass attitude but not rude.
As we were about to pull out of the parking lot she walked outside and saw us in our car and proceeded to flip us off. Our jaws hit the floor. We decided to go to Comfort to see if they would have some contact information or pass our number along to be contacted we spoke with the manager there who was just as shocked and said he would pass on the complaint. After reading the reviews on here it would seem the crappy attitude/service is rather common but i do hope that some education on service and such can be addressed as the food here...
Read moreI had high hopes for this long-awaited visit to the Cross Eyed Cricket. Having lived in Evansville for years, it was one of those local spots I always meant to try but never did. After moving away, I told my wife about the little restaurant I’d always been curious about, and on a recent trip back to town, we finally decided to give it a go. Unfortunately, the experience fell well short of expectations.
We arrived around 3:30 in the afternoon, an off-peak time, with only a handful of tables occupied. Service began with a pair of rolls that arrived cold and dry, setting the tone for what was to come. Two persistent flies made themselves unwelcome dinner companions throughout the meal, circling our table and others nearby.
The daily special was turkey and dressing, which my wife ordered, while I chose the country-fried steak, intending to share and sample both plates. Her turkey arrived as several slices resembling thick deli meat, topped with what appeared to be congealed yellow gravy, more gelatin than sauce, and served cold. Beneath it lay the stuffing, which, to its credit, was the best thing on either plate, warm, flavorful, and nicely seasoned. The accompanying cornbread was dry and cool to the touch, the mashed potatoes heavy and lukewarm, the green beans utterly devoid of seasoning, and the fried okra so overcooked it bordered on inedible.
My own entrée, the country-fried steak, was tough, full of gristle, and lacked any real flavor. Each bite was a reminder that this meal was not what I had hoped for.
To be fair, the one redeeming element of our visit was our waitress. She was handling the dining room solo, juggling every table with admirable patience and a smile. Her effort was the lone bright spot in an otherwise disappointing experience.
We left unsatisfied, stopping at a drive-through for a quick cheeseburger on the way out of town. It’s a shame, really, I wanted to love this place, to discover the local gem I had imagined all those years. Sadly, the Cross Eyed Cricket missed the mark in...
Read moreYesterday was the first time visiting the west side location and I left there very upset with the "manager". The food was great but the service was terrible. We went without drinks almost our entire meal and my husband ordered a roll that he didn't get until we were done eating and the "manager" asks if everything was good. i told him we needed drinks and a roll we never got. He comes back and says "I talked to your waitress and she said she brought your rolls, but here are some more." Then the waitress comes over and tells us she brought the rolls. I said "No, you brought my corn bread but thanks for calling us a liar y'all" and then the manager laughs and says "really" under his breath as he runs away. Why make customers mad over a roll? Why treat customers as though they are lying? It was so uncalled for how he handled it. He should have sat the rolls down, said sorry and that be that but instead he says we already got them but here's some more and if that wasn't bad enough the waitress is now making it look like we are lying. Why would we lie about a roll lol? The food was good except for the twice baked potato. She brings it out and says "I know it looks burnt but I tested it and it's fine". I was confused as to how she would know it wasn't burnt unless she tasted it but she said she stirred it with a knife and the potatoes were not burnt. So yeah she was correct, the potatoes were fine but the charred cheese and ash Bacon...
