I just moved to the Everett area from Seattle ~5 months ago and have been desperately scouring the area for a place like Buck’s. Finally stumbled upon them on Wednesday and just had to go back today (Thursday)! On our first visit (for pick-up, of course, although their interior and bar area look amazing and I can’t wait to check it out) we ordered the fish tacos, coco prawns, and spicy chicken burger.
The fish tacos were otherworldly, no joke. Every component in that huge tortilla was so full of flavor and the mahi was flaky and perfectly cooked despite sitting for a good 30-45 min during pickup/travel/table setting time. Oh, and there were two of those huge things. I usually feel underfed when ordering fish tacos from places just because they can lack in size. No worries here. The salsa and crema were cherries on top, adding more dimension and freshness to an already great flavorscape.
The other seafood we ordered, Coco prawns, were equally delicious and the best I’ve ever had. And I’ve had a ton of coconut prawns in the last 30 years. Like, a lot. Shrimp tops my list of proteins consumed. Perfectly sweet and crunchy while keeping the shrimp juicy and in the foreground. The chicken burger was also great, although I was hoping it would have breaded chicken rather than grilled. To be fair, if we were able to eat in the restaurant at this moment in history I would have been able to ask and probably still would have ordered it because it was very delicious.
This amazing meal last night led me to return tonight and try the chicken parm and artichoke dip. The dip is incredible!! It’s exactly what you’d expect from an artichoke dip but somehow more flavorful and something about it is different, in the best way. The crostinis that come with it, which are not only plentiful but incredibly well-seasoned, are perfect bite-sized strips that hold the dip amazingly well. Then there’s the parm...whoa, ‘the parm.’ Moist (I know, I’m sorry) white meat chicken topped with zesty homemade marinara that somehow gets locked on top of the chicken by being draped with cheese and forming a beautiful crispy disk of marinara-stuffed cheesy chicken parmesan. Oh, and it comes with a big! portion of fettuccini noodles coated in herbaceous alfredo sauce. It also has veggies on the side to help subdue the richness a bit. So freaking amazing, seriously.
I was so amped to find this place and was dancing in the kitchen when trying every dish so I had to post my first restaurant review in about 10 years. Now to get to my chicken...
Read moreWe used Buck's American Cafe in Everett for our wedding reception. In a scale of 1 to 5, I'd give them a 12. Although the wedding was in Snohomish, I found only one banquet room there that wasn't upstairs (a show stopper for some of my older guests). They wanted to charge me $100/ hour just to use the room, and all they had was pub food. Plus, parking would have been challenging.
Buck's is conveniently located right off the trestle, has ample parking, and their cozy banquet room was just big enough for our group of 20. Their 19th century building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The manager Rebecca Cadden gave me her number, and I worked everything out with her by phone and text. Her whole staff acted like they were old friends who were celebrating along with us. They didn't charge us for the room itself, and they threw in lots of free extras we weren't expecting. They put out a surprise bouquet of red roses for us, which they let us keep. They insisted that we keep a free bottle of champagne when we left. They let us store our wedding cake in their fridge the night before.
I had ordered appetizers, salad, and side dishes off the catering menu, and gave my guests their choice of three entrees, selected in advance. I had them open five bottles of various wines in advance, with more on deck. Everything was ready when we got there, including the plated entrees. Everybody raved about the food. I had the citrus beurre blanc salmon, and it was amazing. In particular, everybody loved the tenderloin skewers; the meat was so soft it just melted in your mouth.
I thought the price was quite reasonable for such a lovely experience. There were plenty of leftovers to take home. The catering menu helped a lot to keep it economical. I would highly recommend them for your next party, or just a...
Read moreNice looking place. We walk in 1.5 hours before closing as posted on their door. My boyfriend wanted to go here to try meatloaf but I had never been and would need a moment to choose. As soon as we walked in, we were informed that their kitchen was being closed at that moment so if we ordered immediately they would serve us. I immediately responded that I don’t know what I want because I’ve never seen the menu. They said I could have a seat and take a minute to look. They sat us with two menus and walked away. I looked at the menus and saw they had given us brunch menus (it was dinner time though and the brunch items weren’t available at the time). I had to wait for someone to come by to ask for a correct menu but no one was coming back quickly and I felt I should be looking right away to hurry and put in my order. I ended up walking over to the bar and asking for one and then walked back to the table. The waiter walked over right as I sat back down and asked us to put in our order now and I explained that I had only just gotten the correct menu so I don’t know yet. He said ok and then just stood there implying I needed to pick now. Again, never been here, had no idea what all was on the menu. I felt so uncomfortable and so did my boyfriend. My boyfriend suggested we just go somewhere else so we wouldn’t be an inconvenience. Not a great experience. Probably won’t go back.
They said they were closing early because it was dead and they had no customers but we were trying to be customers and as we were walking away I saw two more couples walking in who were also probably trying to...
