There’s bell peppers in my mapo tofu. I’m sick and alone and I really wanted some mapo tofu. Comfort food. Usual place I go to is closed today. Very sad. I looked for alternatives and found this place. They were nice. Portions are great. Food is decent. There’s bell peppers in my mapo tofu. Admittedly I’m not an expert on szechwan cuisine. Never seen a mapo tofu recipe with bell peppers. Usually not this soupy. The addition of ground pork is “authentic” and something that my usual place is lacking, but there I assume it’s because it’s on the vegetarian menu. No bell peppers. I ate it anyway. I picked out all the bell peppers like I’m six. I hate bothering people and I’m still sick so I don’t want to go driving again when I’m so full of NyQuil. But I am so very sad. So sad. This was a lot of money for me. I can’t judge a restaurant on one item, and it’s an item that I’m sure not many people order, so I really don’t want to tank their score. But oh man. I’m just really upset that I ordered this.

After seeing other reviews, I felt compelled to share my experience. I’ve visited this place multiple times since June and never knew the previous owner. In my opinion, I believe half of the negative reviews might be fake. Some seem to miss the old owner dearly, specifically for the way he prepared food over the past 30 years. Anything different isn’t satisfactory for them. During my recent visit last week, I ordered several dishes: the shrimp wontons were outstanding, a definite 10/10. The sweet and sour pork and the fish with mixed vegetables both rated a solid 9/10. The fried calamari and shrimp toast were good too, scoring 8/10 each. My family and I visited around 3 pm, and the food arrived promptly. I noticed some complaints about excessive oil on the food, but I didn’t experience that issue as you can see in my photos. Everything was delicious. We definitely plan to visit again.

This is by far the worst Chinese food I’ve had in a while, not to mention over priced. Maybe an even worst value proposition. We ordered 6 wings, boneless spare ribs platter combo and shrimp and garlic sauce combo which totaled $38 with tax. The spareribs were completely burnt on both sides barely edible. The shrimp tasted horrible, almost a soap like after taste. The rice was gummy as if reheated. The wonton soup was doughy and broth had no seasoning. Even the egg rolls were stale for Christ sakes, no to mention bad chicken wings, how do you make bad tasting fried wings? We didn’t even get fortune cookies, like really. I hate leaving bad reviews and rarely even review but I had to take the time to let it be known.

July 2024 update: Ricky has retired. I was going to take my family there to see Ricky, the owner, and have our usual meal there but when I read the reviews, it was not great. Since the previous owner retired, seems like the reviews are not that hot. Will have to go there myself one day to see for myself. Until then…

I am Chinese from Singapore, which is a foodist’s Heaven and I also love to cook so I must admit that not many restaurants wow me. Especially when it comes to Chinese food. I’m sorry but Chinese food in America is for the most part — yuck —let’s just say that it’s not what the cooks and workers in those restaurants eat. Trust me—they cook something altogether different for themselves.

There is one Chinese restaurant I have to let you all know about — King’s Palace in Cherry Hill, NJ. The food here is truly amazing. We have been going there since my first son was born–some 20 years ago. This place surprised me— the food was truly authentic Hong Kong style food. It was not your typical Chinese joint where they throw in a ton of sugar (which Americans love) and msg. No! The food here is exquisite. There is not a single dish that we have tried that we did not love. I have brought many friends there and everyone said the same thing about this place. I could go on raving about each dish but I’ll give you the pleasure of discovering that yourselves.

And Ricky, the owner, is one cool guy. That’s another reason we keep going back. He treats his customers like family. Like I said in my review of Pho Eden, we now live an hour and a half away, but we don’t mind the drive at all to get a good...

Update 02/01/24 to my recent update of 7/4/23. To Steve T. This was NOT a "fake review" as you claim. I stand by my review. Maybe things changed or maybe you don't know what good chinese food is. UPDATE 7/4/23 Anyone who leaves a 5 star rating within the last 5 weeks is an owner or employee. One star is one too many. This WAS our go to place for 18 years. I just found out that there sre new owners as I suspected. I live in Southampton but travelled here because the Chinese restaurants in the area are not as good as this place WAS. My wife was in the area and ordered pork chow mein. There were literally 5 small pieces of pork and was more like vegatable chow mein and was tasteless. The fried noddles were stale and hard as a rock and threw them out. They resembled the type you can buy in the grocery store. We also prefer house mustard (hotter than the packets). The small pastic container was 1/4 full. From reading the reviews, apparently they are racist. This place will not last, especially the regulars that might not be aware yet of this disgraceful...
