New Jersey, or just Jersey as most people would say, is known for being a diner state aside from being the garden state. Anyone who knew the original Olga's diner and their award winning Boston cream pie mourned it's loss. There were many days I traveled to Olga's just to pick up one or two of those delicious nontraditional Boston cream pies. Imagine my excitement when I was travelling down Route 73 one day and saw that iconic Olga's sign. Since my sister and I celebrate our birthdays which are four days apart with a day of shopping and then eating, we opted for Olga's diner this year in lieu of the traditional Italian in honor of our heritage. When we first drove by on our way to our last shopping stop, the parking lot was mobbed. It was basically the same by the time we arrived but plenty of seating was available. The first thing that drew our eyes was the dessert case. Their Boston cream pie looked traditional and sad but there were some desserts that look promising. Yes, I will eat ice cream for dinner. All the staff is very friendly but some do seem frazzled. The coffee was good. I drink it black to get the true taste and someone came around frequently to see if you needed a refill. I ordered a three cheese grilled cheese and my sister ordered a chicken wrap. The food arrived hot and her wrap was very full. I loved the mustard dip that came with the grilled cheese. We both loved the french fries, they tasted fresh and not greasy. The one thing I missed was no coleslaw. I know most people don't eat it, but I love it. We opted to take our desserts home. While the waitress tried to convince us the Boston cream pie was good, I told her it looked terrible. I told her they really need to get Olga's recipe that they won an award from Boston for. I am only giving them four stars as the marble cheesecake I had, though creamy, wasn't very marbled. I guess I'm spoiled since I live near Junior's. Go there for the food but if your truly a dessert lover I would suggest you opt for getting that elsewhere.

Olga's managed to keep the old style diner feel - from fast seating and quick food service down to the personalized attention from wait staff - while offering an upscale food menu with all the quality of a 5 star chef! I ordered Olga's French Toast, which was cooked to perfection! Lightly crisped on the outside while fluffy on the inside. Most places I've ordered French toast from (including my own kitchen lol) leave it mushy and wet on the inside and burnt or too well-done on the outside. This was perfectly done with just the right amount of powdered sugar sprinkled on each slice. My friend ordered Sausage Gravy and Biscuits and OMG!!! It was SUPERB!!! For an appetizer, we ordered the cheese steak rolls with their signature dipping sauce. These were a bit too hard for my taste, but they made up for it with our entrees. And to continue the praise, even with 3 other parties in front of us, we waited less than 5 minutes to be seated and were immediately greeted by our waitress upon being shown to our table. She was friendly, professional, and knew the menu well. Once we ordered, our food was brought to us within 10 to 15 minutes. Our waitress checked on us enough times that we didn't have to look for her and wanted for nothing but not enough times to become intrusive or a nuisance. Upon completing our meal, our waitress was right there to clear our table, ask if we wanted desert or more coffee, and when we declined immediately brought our check. I highly highly recommend this place for any event such as an after church brunch, a first, second, or subsequent date, catching up with friends over a meal, dining alone, or a fun family outing. Trust me - you will NOT be disappointed!!!

I was going to give 1 star but since they at least tried with the vegan menu I'll make an exception and give 2 1/2 stars. After all the vegan menu is the reason why i came here. Other things led up to the low star rating. Let's start from the beginning. Arrived around 6pm and there was only a few tables, not busy at all. Seated quickly which was nice. Drink order was taken quickly. Our waitress seemed nice, but a little "off" though. Couldn't tell if she was just extremely tired or her feet hurt..idk but she was "off" and kept leaning forward like she was going to fall asleep. Anyway..moving on. After we ordered we waited for the soup & appetizer. My wife ordered the cheesesteak egg rolls and I ordered the barley soup but it actually was lentil soup that she brought out. Ok, maybe she thought it was called barley?? Idk but lentils and barley are not the same thing lol! Anywho...I'm told by my partner that the cheesesteak egg rolls were "interesting" The Asian mixed with the cheesesteak was weird but still good. The dips they paired with them were even stranger...BBQ sauce and sweet & sour...hmmm why not pair it with a cheese dip?? Just a thought. Next, while waiting for our order it was starting to get busy. People being seated, some orders taken and a few not. Two tables next to us were waiting a while before anyone even took their order. The family at one table finally got up and left because they got tired of waiting then the next family followed after that. It took quite a while for us to get our food too. In the meantime the waitress never came back to refill our drinks or even check on us. We had to wave her down and ask for refills. When the food came it looked good visually. Taste was a different story. I ordered the vegan "chicken" marsala and it was weird. The plant based chicken they used was breaded and had an Asian flavor to it and was so overcooked I could barely cut it leaving it inedible. The sauce was eh..different and the mushrooms were clearly canned mushrooms. My meal was $22.99 which included the soup (which was a TINY bowl) and I supposed to get a pudding that I never got. So I was completely overcharged for food that probably cost them $8 to buy. My wife ordered an open-faced Monte Cristo and the potatoes it came with were burnt and not edible. The sandwich was dry, overcooked and she brought syrup with it & it's usually paired with a berry Jam. Neither of us finished our food. We were ready to go and waited even more for the check. Once she brought it I quickly paid. The cashier asked how everything was and I said "Not good." Told her about the long wait, not getting the pudding that was supposed to be included with this meal and all she said was "Sorry" without offering to take some percentage off or something for food I did not receive but was literally in the middle of paying for. Not even an offer to get the manager or anything. I REALLY wanted to like this place. With the multiple vegan options offered I was planning on coming back every couple times a month to try different things but this experience just ruined it for me. Also, I understand times are hard for businesses but to completely price gouge your customers just to keep your doors open is wrong and will only turn people away. If you're going to charge as much as you do... the food BETTER be worth it and this was NOT. Cheesesteak egg roll appetizer: $12.99. Monte Cristo: $13.99, Vegan chicken marsala $22.99 and two iced teas $6.20. You do the math.

This perfectly-executed modern incarnation of a diner feels crisp and up-to-date, while remaining within the comfortable bounds of a diner experience. It's hard to find a single detail in the interior that isn't well thought-out, from the lighting on the ceilings, to the design of the booths, to the flooring. There are two large dining rooms for a total space about twice the size of a typical diner. There is also a bar area with stools. Even the menu is perfectly executed. You don't have to stare at it to figure out how to order a traditional breakfast of 2 eggs & bacon. It's the first box under "breakfast specials" at the top. Add your protein separately, e.g. bacon, Canadian bacon, corn beef hash, pork roll, sausage, Italian sausage, turkey sausage, scrapple, etc. The specials come with "homefries", but you can substitute fruit. I got both. The picture doesn't do justice to the size of the freshly cut bowl of fruit, which my waitress offered to bring before the rest of the meal. It's more than one person can eat. For a more manageable portion ask for a side of fruit. Also shown: Avocado toast (from a separate visit). It came topped with pickled onions that were too sweet to satisfy a savory breakfast craving. Tomato might be better.

This was our first lunchtime trip to the new Olga’s Diner (the name is the same, but different location and different owners). The three of us started with a cup of soup. I had French onion soup, which was pretty good with a combination of gruyere & provolone cheese. The only miss was they must have skimped on the wine, otherwise it was quite good. My entree was carne asada with yellow rice & beans and spring salad greens. This was pretty good, but since the meat was flank steak it seems impossible to get a medium grilled steak since it is so thin. I can’t knock them for that since that is how carne asada is made. But I did ding them one star for the platter only being on the lukewarm side. We finished with deserts. I had a cannoli and one of my friends had a Boston cream pie. The cannoli was fairly good, in spite of it being pre-filled and sitting in the refrigerated case (good cannolis are filled just before their served, thus avoiding the soggy shell, but this is a diner and not a fine Italian restaurant). All in all, the food at this diner was pretty good. Service was pretty decent for a packed restaurant. We’ll be back.

Edit after reading Olga's response: Well there, you proved that the problems originate at the top. Note that I said I've had many visits, and the service has gotten worse. Neither did you accept responsibility, or indicate that you would address the issue -- instead you blamed me for "pursuit of perfection". For that bit of gaslighting, I've removed a star. The proper response should be: thank you for honest review, we strive to meet customer expectations, it is fair and reasonable that you feel dissatisfied, we are taking steps to address the issue, we encourage you to revisit and give another try, many employees depend on Olga's. Good luck with your approach to customer satisfaction. Original review: Long time customer, and sadly Olga’s continues to slide. Yesterday’s visit during a non busy afternoon time was the final time. Slow service, mistakes, everyone around us seated after us received their food before us, then wrong dishes tried to be served us by our cranky waitress, only to then wait another ten minutes at least. Food is average at best. RIP the Olga’s we knew.
