Huey's Hidden Vault — Restaurant in Excelsior Springs

I so badly wanted to provide 5 stars! The owners are amazing and provided excellent customer service, the male bartender did not. It was as if he was put off by our arrival. The description lead us to believe that it was a sort of speak easy, while the decor is reminiscent the vibe that night was off. We light-heartedly asked about a password and his response was there is not need because alcohol can be legally sold...kind of killed the jovial feelings. When asked about the cigar selection he motioned to a humidor near the back entrance...no assistance. We choose 2 Acids and two drinks and made our way to the patio. The drinks were just OK, the flavor of one too sweet to finish and one of the cigars was so brittle that it cracked as we were lighting it. I have no doubt that the owners would have provided another drink or replacement cigar, but we were ready to move on to the next location. Not sure this will make it on our must return list unless we see someone else behind the bar.

Absolutely love this place. We try to come once a week. Owners are amazing and super laid back and great people. The staff is very welcoming and make excellent drinks. Upscale speakeasy vibe never any drama. Drinks and cigars have good pricing. Always have a cigar and an old fashioned. Whiskey base and it is amazing. They bring the flavor out when they torch the orange peel and it is the best old Fashioned I’ve had across the country. Shout out to Cameron the bartender and Dale and Pam the owners who are always here enjoying a drink and cigar with the customers. Try the cheese...

Huey's Hidden Vault is an exceptional addition to downtown ES. The cocktail menu is well planned, and seasonally variable, with ingredients made in-house or thoughtfully sourced. If the bespoke cocktails aren't your thing, their extensive bar and awesome staff can easily make you something classic, or crack open a nice beer. Once you e decided on a drink, they have a great humidor and a nice airy patio with a view of the Hall of Waters. Really a gem of a place with the responsible, locally involved ownership I'd love to see...
