I recently had the pleasure of dining at Ventana Restaurant in Excelsior Springs, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. The restaurant itself had a cozy and inviting atmosphere, with tasteful decor and a warm ambiance that immediately made me feel comfortable.

Now let's talk about the food. I decided to try both the salmon and my husband, the prime rib, and we were thoroughly impressed with both dishes. The salmon was cooked to perfection, with a crispy skin and moist, flaky flesh. It was seasoned just right, allowing the natural flavors of the fish to shine through. Accompanied by a medley of roasted vegetables and a flavorful sauce, the salmon dish was a true delight for the palate.

We went to Ventana Grill on a Saturday evening while staying at The Elms (it is walking distance and there aren't many dinner options near the hotel). I will start off by saying our server was the highlight. She was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I got the smothered chicken and would not order it again. The chicken was very small and dry, hardly any mashed potatoes and topped with a TON of onions (other veggies were supposed to come with it but all I got was onions). I also ordered a Ventana Vacation drink which was good. I do not recommend the Mai Tai as it was served in a tiny glass for the same price as the much larger (and better) Ventana Vacation.

If you are Covid cautious, I would definitely avoid this restaurant (especially on the weekends when they are SUPER busy). We went to dinner around 5:30 pm and when we left, the restaurant was wall to wall PACKED with a line out the door (no social distancing whatsoever as the mandates have been lifted in ES). If I had to do things over, I would eat at Wabash BBQ or at the lounge in the hotel (much better social distancing in the hotel...

Ventana Gourmet Grill is a wonderful treasure tucked away in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. My wife and I visited for dinner and were very pleased with the quality of service and friendly staff. I even appreciated our server seeing I was drinking my soda quick, brought be a larger cup.

My wife got the Waldorf Chicken Salad. She found it to be good, but not great. Flavor wasn't as strong as she was hoping, but the bread was a good selection, but overpowered the flavor of the salad, we believe an additional scoop would fix that.

Based on a recommendation, I went with the Burger served Sugar style. HOLY COW...a burger between two Belgian waffles, it was dinner and dessert in one. I should not have finished the entire entree, it was so filling, but there was no way I would leave a ounce of it behind. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
