We wanted so badly to like this bakery. We visit the Amanas frequently but had not visited the bakery in quite a few years. When we entered, the shop was really chilly but the presentation was nice. Lots of very nicely presented baked goods. On this visit we had stopped down in the Amanas to stock up on some of the fantastic coffee at the Amana General store and then decided to go get a bite at the bakery. It was very quiet due to it being a rainy day, so we were the only ones ordering around noon. We both ordered deli sandwiches. They were very simple orders as they limit you to three additional ingredients and one condiment after choosing a meat. Somehow, they managed to mess up both orders. Mine was loaded with black olives which neither of us ordered. My wife's order was loaded with tomatoes which she did not order. In addition to completely getting our orders wrong, and I mean everything wrong except the choice of meat, the wraps were tiny and were handed to us on cheap white paper plates. The wraps, around 13 to 14 bucks a piece, were smaller than the 8-in plate and less than 2 in diameter. I really wish I would have taken photos. For that we paid, over $30 after the " pushed" tip they asked for in advance, It was a very disappointing visit. Both of the wraps were slathered in ranch dressing of which only one of us ordered. Like I said at the beginning of my review, we really wanted to like this place. The kids behind the counter seem nice, but that's about where the quality of service, food, and atmosphere ended. If you're visiting from nearby or out of state I highly recommend the Amana colonies but I would avoid the bakery. There are dozens of great other shops to visit at the Amanas. We love it there. Read some of the other reviews and you'll understand. We certainly wish we would have...
Read moreSadly, we won't return. 1st visit they had little help and the girls working didnt know what what really happening. Reasonable on prices but poor service. We ended up leaving without a purchase. Next visit we tried again because the varieties and prices were good. Disappointed, in just a feelw months the prices have dramaticallyincreased. Maybe it because of summer vs winter season? We stood in line for quite a while which is totally understandable now a days with shortage of labor. But, after way to many minutes in line to buy several loaves of $7 bread and over price goodies, another line opened and she started taking people from the back of the line whom had just gotten in line. We were literally right in front of her. When asking if we could please check out or if she would take people from the front of the line already formed, she was rude and condescending. We waited another bit in line while other from the back were assisted prior to those who waited in front with smirks and glares from the checker. We decided to spend our tourism money elsewhere. Many choices in Amana, and a great little town to visit, I would stay away from the bakery while this current selection of employees is present. For the sake of the owners I hope...
Read moreThis place is terrible. The owner treats her employees and customers absolutely terrible. For someone who’s so “Godlike” maybe she should remember what God is about. She screams at her employees, doesn’t properly train them, the “in house baked goods” are not baked in house. They are sent to them in boxes. Not fresh, so they are stale and overpriced. The owner of this “bakery” is sue happy but needs to learn that you can’t tell someone with a service animal what they’re for and that they can’t have them there. That’s a lawsuit waiting to happen. Or denying a pregnant women the use of a bathroom. That’s just wrong. You’re better off going to the gas station. Atleast their stuff is baked there. Go to the Chocolate Haus across the street for better service and they’ll also let you use the bathroom with no problem and bring other food and pets into the store (as long as they’re behaved of course) I’d give this place 0 stars if that...
