Bonchon - Fairfax — Restaurant in Fairfax

Was on the road traveling with my family had a hankering for BonChon. Placed 2 orders here yesterday online because we all know how atrocious the wait is. This was my first time ordering from this particular location. I normally ordered from the other ones in VA, and of course it’s the one I have THE worst experience with. We arrive, 1 of 2 orders are ready the second one is being prepped, as my family and I are waiting we kindly ask can we go ahead and just dine in instead. Both orders already paid mind you and the “manager” at the front being a complete douche that he is says no per their policy. Not trying to go full Karen, I asked can I see that policy in writing. He replied I don’t have anything. How do we know this wasn’t just some made up policy?! All other locations have no issue with ordering ahead because they know how sucky their wait time is. I lost my appetite and wasn’t hungry after that just put a bad taste in my mouth because there was ZERO other customers and a completely empty dining room.

So just curious had I dined in and after getting our meal say oop I guess we’re going to take it home to go. Would that had been an issue?! Make it make sense.

I went in today to order some of there $1 wing deals for Monday and Tuesday. I walk in at 8:50 and they refused to seat me and told me I could only dine in. I saw about 8-9 tables empty and they said it is because they are closing there kitchen an hour before, keep in mind - they close at 10pm and I am at the counter wanting to just order some wings at 8:50pm. I said okay to dining out but asked if they can honor their $1 wings for the take-out since they are closing early and refusing to let me dine in - which they refused. I really wanted to have some Bonchon so I ordered a boneless 10pc and waited for 40mins to get my order. I don’t understand what is the reason they denied seating me with SEVERAL seats of empty spacing, with a super delayed order, and no honorary of their $1 wings deal. On top of that, the chicken was SO dry. Keep in mind, I eat Bonchon frequently - like at least five times a month, from different locations. I have never had the food taste so bad before. I was truly disappointed of their poor attitude and lack of customer service given their shortcomings - in delivery times, ability to dine in, as well as honoring the deal given their denial of service. I ordered soy garlic wings, Korean bbq wings (a flavor they introduced for summer), regular fries, takoyaki, kimchi, and pickled radish. As a general rule, Bonchon seems to have really nailed how to get good crispy food. Everything that you might want to be crispy, they make really very crispy and delicious. The fries were amazingly crispy but soft on the inside and delicious. Ideal fries, really. The wings were shockingly crispy. The takoyaki were surprisingly crispy (often takoyaki are not crispy). The crispiness, in all cases, was great and works great with this food, and comes with good flavors that are associated with crispiness (e.g. savory browning).

I very highly recommend their wings and fries. They were very excellent. The flavors are good and the crispiness is splendid. The wings are large, breaded, and filling. The food was prepared and delivered quickly, hot, and deliciously crispy. Takoyaki were pretty good, carried largely by the crispiness. Kimchi was good.
