My husband and I visited Kim's Pho Kitchen + Bar Restaurant for the first time, after my search for Vietnamese cuisine in Fairfax VA, since we're new in this area. I checked the website and was pretty impressed with how the dishes are photographed. So we went there to check it out! My first impression when we walked in was that it is charming and traditional. There are live plants everywhere inside the restaurant, you can tell there was some thought put into the design of the space to make customers feel welcomed and relaxed. They have a nice bar that looks clean though I haven't tried any cocktails yet.
My husband ordered 'Pho Kim', beef broth, rice noodles, filet mignon, topped with cilantro, onions and scallions. Mine was a 'Caramelized Claypot', salmon/prawns/baby ribs simmered in coconut juice, caramelized onions. Served with steamed rice.
So in my opinion this dish was very salty and oily. The amount of rice didn't compensate for the salmon and saltiness at all. And I didn't actually see any ribs!? I asked the waiter why the dish was too salty? He said that in Vietnam they eat less protein and more rice because most of the population is poor. So you don't taste as much salt while the sauce is naturally very salty! I seriously doubt that because of the YouTube videos I've seen on how various Asians cooked and mixed all kinds of meats with seafood and overeat. There are no rules. My recommendation is don't order this dish. $22 for a dish using farmed salmon is not worth it.
On one hand we do look for authentic cuisine, however it seems reasonable to us that any excess such as use of salt or worse, MSG, should be changed to use healthy ingredients with nutrition on mind.
My husband likes his Pho the cut of the meat was great without sinews, the broth tasted good when I tried it.
Still better than the 'Pho Cyclo' restaurant we tried before not worth a review.
We're planning to go back again to try other dishes and I'll post more.
By the way I noticed our waiter always washed his hands after cleaning tables which is so important nowadays in the COVID-19 era since we're moving from pandemic to endemic.
I wasn't impressed with the hallway leading to the restrooms where piles of supplies mixed with children's high chairs were stacked and degraded the otherwise aesthetic decor. I think it should be cleaned up so customers have more space to walk without bumping into things, especially a larger person or someone in a wheelchair.
They had plenty of parking, and a beautiful outdoor patio as well.
Overall, a pleasant and...
Read moreThere in this restaurant was or still is a Chinese-Vietnamese p.o.s receptionist/ or managerial level male/or it was also a co-owner of this business. where this Chinese-Vietnamese it was very rude or violent to me on one occasion for no true known reason by me. i am still very uncomfortable so i put this review here for the possible safety of other unaware Customers. We brought this "no good event" to the owner of this business, but as we were about to describe out my rational/legal basis for our alleged claims as in any courts of law, the Vietnamese female owner then hung up on me. A before encounter, she said to me that she was jealous (about something i could not make it out) to me, which looked to instigate or to create issues instead of peace of mind when all we did was coming in to have lunch or dinner. Jealousy is when there is something wrong or not deserving or when there is an injustice but this female she already looked good with her have became an owner of a restaurant and a really nice fish tank. And yes, she hung up the phone as we were only trying to explain my legal-rational basis for our claim. we permanently ceased to set foot in this restaurant ever again for our health and safety. The Chinese-Vietnamese receptionist/supervisory/managerial level at the "p.o.s. terminal" where he processed payments, his sudden violence to me sounded or looked like an "unwarranted hate" to me despite we did not do anything to "him." If anything, my personal is my personal. He was supposed to be with some level of service given the food price is higher than at other places which may have the same or even better foods both in quality and quantity. The environment was very nice, but this Chinese-Vietnamese's sudden excessive loud verbal violence behavior is injury. some cops don't mediate successfully because they are business owners who pay these cops their paychecks, one of the...
Read moreIf i can give less than 1 start, i will do it. I came today to the restaurant and BEFORE to order we gave a coupon of 25$ to our waitress and then We proceed with the food order. Food came 25 min later and to be fair, it was good; standard food. We finished and asked for the check and then a lady came saying that they don't accept those coupons anymore. We started to complain and challenge the lady since we provided the coupon BEFORE order the food and nobody told us anything about the validity of he coupon. After several rounds the owner (a very "presentable" lady) joined us and she started with the same history of not accepting the coupon and blaming the company that sold it to us; she said it was an scam. She tried to offer us 10$ but we wanted the 25$ offer that we got and we will not leave the place without the 25$. She started to disrespect us and point that the coupon and company that printed were not legit. After 15 minutes of complaining, she made a call to somebody else and with no word the other lady came back with the check and the 25$ offer was applied to our check. Immediately, we noticed that she started screaming and yelling to the waitress that we provided the coupon. She yelled in front all customers disrespecting the waitress in all the ways. Then she left the table, not even with a sorry word to us or to any customer. We noticed that she has a problem of angry management and we feel so sorry for their employees. A restaurant like this is not worth to come back because the behavior of this person. As a customer i felt completely disrespected by the owner of the restaurant; also my two little kids (2 and 7 years old) had to see that...
