After spending a lazy, sun-filled and fun-filled afternoon at Horseneck Beach in Westport, we decided to treat ourselves to a delicious Portuguese meal at Sagres Restaurant in Fall River. Four of us arrived at 5 PM on a Sunday evening, and we appreciated being seated immediately without a reservation. The soft Portuguese rolls were aplenty – enough to feed a small army, lol! Our bottled wine and pistachio martini came minutes after being ordered. Our waitress was engaging, personable, and very helpful with appetizer and entree recommendations. And though the restaurant was already buzzing with guests, our food came out in a very timely manner. For an appetizer, we started with the house made soft cheese and spicy red pepper sauce. The cheese was creamy and buttery and the red pepper sauce had just the right amount of kick! We were ever-so-thankful for the abundance of rolls which came particularly handy while indulging in the cheese. For entrees, we ordered the duck, the salmon, the octopus, and the corning hen. Portions were generous and everything was tasty! We were especially impressed with the grilled octopus. Not only was it tender and perfectly charred, but there was A LOT of octopus, unlike other restaurants that provide a minimal serving of octopus supplemented by sides. Bellies full and hearts fuller, we passed on dessert and settled the bill, which amounted to about $60 per person (for one shared appetizer, 4 entrees, a bottle of wine, and one martini.) For the portions and quality of the food, we thought that the prices were very reasonable. While we have plenty of good food in the Somerville/Boston area, we are always pleasantly surprised with the Portuguese food in Fall River. We highly recommend Sagres, and we can’t wait to visit there again!

My meal was superb. The meals my spouse and friends had also looked good and they enjoyed it. I had a passion fruit margarita that was excellent. I dropped a star because of our overall welcome. First, we checked the website, saw no mention of needing reservations or being able to request a reservation online, so we just showed up very early on a Sat evening. 4:30! We were told we couldn’t be seated because reservations were full. But the place was empty at that time. Fine. We took seats at the empty bar, not ideal for a party of 4 and service was ok. It’s also tricky to park, given they don’t have much more than a few parking spots in a lot. So prepare to look for street parking and walking a bit. Lastly, the desserts were a bit disappointing. Super, overly sweet, killed the flavor. This was basically the general feeling and we all got different things. If you’re gluten free, the menu is not marked but you can make it work pretty easily with this kind of cuisine. Overall, we paid quite a lot for decent service, excellent authentic Portuguese food, and a nice night out. It’s almost a 5 but not quite for my first time. Maybe next time. I’d go again with different expectations.

Waited at the front desk to be ignored for about 10-12m before finally someone talked to us. We noticed the phone ringing constantly and never being answered with the caller hanging up eventually. Waitress never came in and checked on us. We ordered a few dishes, mind you this is a pricey location so we expect good service and food. However, when our food came out we immediately noticed the chicken was completely burned. It even had the burn flavor to it. The chicken was completely devoid of flavor and just tasted like charcoal. Ended up not eating any if it, even the pieces that looked semi-not burnt tasted burnt. My own lobster I ordered was burnt... how do you even burn lobster, I dont know. But the lobster meat was so tough it crumbled into pieces in my mouth. Salmon was ok but the skin area was burnt crispy of course. Service was horrible, did I mention that? Well, there was no service, anyways.

We went to celebrate my son’s Birthday. We arrive at 3:06 it takes host 5 mins to talk to us. He tells us we have to wait at least 4-10 mins no table available. I made the reservation 6 days in advance. My son was holding the cake which was a big box no one offered to take it. We were judging standing there. I looked over at the host and said “can you please take this to the kitchen” he mumbled something “ rudely to the box. After standing for 10 mins we were seated. We sat from 3:15-3:26 no one came over to offer us anything. Finally we received cold bread! Can you believe it Portuguese restaurant with cold hard bread. We finally got a waiter to take our drink order about 3:40. We sat there for an hour and 10 mins until our food came out. We were a party of 11 and two guest had no silverware we asked but it took 15 mins for waitress to bring it over. Not once did the waitress come by to ask us how the food was and did we need anything. At this point it was 5:20 and we asked if someone can clear the table. Only two people received water and I was never offered a glass of water except for an empty one that sat next to me. The food was cold by the way when it came out. Let’s back up once the cake came they sang Happy Birthday and wanted to go cut the cake for us but they wanted to charge 2.00 a person even though there service was so bad! No thank you. I asked waitress to bring me back my cake we will cut it at home. We asked for bill it took 15 mins no one came. So my brother got up and asked what is the hold up. They said internet is down. Meanwhile no one offered us coffee, teas or anything to say sorry for the wait we will cut the cake while you wait and provide a drink to your party!! Nope they did not do this!! Terrible customer service!!! They said we will take a copy of your card number and bill you later when internet is up since you been waiting 25 mins!!! When I tell you we will never come back to this restaurant again!!!!!! Not too mention we asked for two small kids junior steaks and they charged us for regular bife de casa price of 24.00 each!!! Crazy.. do not go to this place unless you want poor service and okay cold food and bread. Disappointed that my sons 19th Birthday was this terrible service! I will choose some where else.by the way they added tip of 75.00 to the bill!! We had no choice we were a big party but we would have never tipped that much for this service it would have been 25.00 and please learn how to treat your paying customers. They charged my card an hour later and I was not present to sign by the way folks...

Not worth even 1 star. Coming from a resturant managerial position of 8 years I will start by saying everything from beginning to end that what you the owner and the staff orchestrated tonight was a complete and utter mess! 1.Waiting a half hour for a reservation. 2. The thermostat must have read 80+ tonight almost every single patron dripping in sweat including myself (completely unbearable). 3. I had to ask for a server after 10 minutes of no service 4. Server takes drinks, apps and dinner order at first sight. 5. Sangria was watery, table water tastes like toliet water and NO ICE (or maybe there was ice but it melted in the goddamn heat). 6. Apps came out (amazing) but no bread 7. Server no where to be found, she was asked if the A.C. was broke and yells over to the owners daughter who was dripping in sweat "hey can you ask your dad what's going on with the AC?" 8. Server had no empathy for us sweating. 9. Meals come out, server gave me the wrong meal -all meals not served at the same time. 10. Drinks not refilled. 11. Food was 3 out of 10 greasy, not cooked to requested temp. 11. (Are you still reading?) We should have walked out by now but knowing we've been here 6 times prior we were thinking " it must be an off night". I wave the server down and tell her how bad our experience is and she smirks and says I don't know what to tell you (basically). I ask to speak to the owner who states it's busy, doors keep opening and he's gonna goto the basement to check the A.C. aka screw you and every patron in here dripping in sweat...he then avoids us for the entire night even while asking tables around us how their dinner is. Bill comes (drum roll). Not a sorry, not a thank you for dining...just the entire bill! I DON'T think so!!! I race up to tap the owner on the shoulder to say "my table of 4 including tables around us have had the worse dining experience here ever and you don't comp not even 1 app?!" He states "I didn't know you got your bill, I'll look into it". 12. Server NOT the owner re- delivers the check $40 of drinks taken off the bill and she makes a point to say "even the $25 Sangria". We should have walked out when we walked in!!!!NEVER again!!!I blame the owner. Unapologetic, laughing with the servers while staring at our table, and unaccountable. As for the server you may not control the A.C. or the way the food is cooked but a sincere sorry would have left you more the the 50 cent tip you got tonight....
