Went for brunch at about 11am Saturday and got seated right away. I noticed only 1 table had patrons at it. It is not normal for a newer place in Fallon to be slow, especially on a weekend, so that should have been a clue for us. The waitress serving us had a rather “meh” demeanor about her when helping us which made us feel like we were an inconvenience to her. It took about 10 minutes to get 2 coffees water and an orange juice, and maybe 20 minutes to get our food after ordering. We noticed the inside of the restaurant was cleaner than when it was Don Julio’s, but not much else was different. Thankfully they changed the entrance door so it doesn’t slam shut when people walk. What they did not change the seating arrangements. The tables are too close together, so When someone is seated at a table next to you the backs of the chairs touch unless you’re uncomfortably close to the table top, and if your the person seated against the wall, everyone else has to get up so you can get out if you need to. I got the country fried steak and eggs. I tried to order 2 other choices, but couldn’t due to the restaurant not having biscuits or sauce for the chilaquiles. The food was just ok, very bland and sportingly there was only salt and pepper at the table no hot sauces (strange for a Mexican restaurant ). After asking for hot sauce,I got tired of waiting and was able to eat half the eggs I had before receiving any sauce. Gravy was not good, I only ate half my fried steak because of it. I would expect that at $18.50 that meal would have been better, but it wasn’t as good as my home cooking. During our meal we were offered once for a refill of coffee, in the hour plus we were there. After finishing, our waitress cleared the table and did not bring the bill. We both had to get up from the table so my wife could ask for the bill to be able to leave (she was seated by the wall). For 2 people with 3 drinks, it was almost $47.00. Too much for what we got. Don’t think I’ll...
Read moreLet preface this with, worth a go regardless of what I say. Everyone's experience varies, but this place nailed our meal.
We decided last minute to have an early dinner out on New years Eve. Very few places seemed open, so we stumbled upon this little gem on the main street.
The staff was amazing, the young lady who waited on us was patient (I asked a lot of questions) and always had a smile, which is a huge bonus in my book.
Normally, I rate mexican food on a known good, flautas, which I always try because I know the dish well. They have flautas as well. However, this time, the missus and I opted for the fajitas for 2. I was not disappointed.
I am getting ahead of myself, though. The first thing that stood out was the chips. As you see in the pictures, two types of salsa, a plate of onions and peppers, and lastly, but most unique. A cup of refried beans. I can't count how many places I've been and never once was offered beans with my chips. It was such a small thing, but it made my night.
The fajitas arrived on a cart, were lit ablaze, and finished sizzling as they placed the oven on the table. It was cool to see, but the smell and the sound of that sizzle were mouth watering. The onions and bell peppers were grilled and flavorful, and the steak tender and juicy (we both chose steak as our protein).
My complaints are trivial really, the chairs felt cheap and weren't very comfy. The doors proximity to the majority of the tables did blast us with cold air each time it opened, but sometimes that can't be helped.
All in all, it was an amazing dinner and we will be visiting more in the future. We did get dessert for later that night. However, my pastry had gotten cold by the time we got to eat it, so it was not a fair judgment. The missus loved her...
Read moreGreat food! I will say first that they just opened and I like to have some grace with new businesses as we all should. They also seemed to get a rush of people in after us which seemed to add to some service delays understandably. A little slower getting around and getting our order taken, but it will get better I'm sure. Be patient and kind as they get the hang of things.
I ordered the Jalapeno Burger and it was great! Jalapenos are definitely fresh and hot. The cheese I believe is called Queso Fresco which is a white cheese that was seared a bit. It looked like chicken at first glance, but now I know and it was so good! Fries were okay. Not bad, but nothing special. My wife got the breakfast burrito. Also really good. She got hash browns with hers and they just weren't crispy at all which was a bummer. The red salsa though that you get with your chips is worth 10 stars. So good! I don't know if there's rosemary or what in it, but it is so good! Bean dip was also really good. And we didn't order the fajitas, but after watching the flames fly several times we will be getting them next time.
All in all, a great new restaurant for us to enjoy. And for anyone going in these early weeks remember kindness and patience goes a long way with waitresses, waiters,...
