Lee's Sandwich is a huge sandwich chain from California and it's finally made its way to the East coast. It's open 24 hours and offers everything from banh mi sandwiches, snacks and desserts, to drinks and bowls of pho! What I came for was the banh mi and Lee's fell short.
My usual spot for banh mi is DC sandwich down the street. So this review is in comparison to the banh mi there. As I walked in, there was a sign that said the bread is fresh baked every 30 minutes. Great! The bread is definitely the best part of the banh mi. I ordered the Lee's combination and the grilled pork. The combination was good but not amazing. The bread was soft and chewy but not as crusty as I would have preferred. There's something about getting a nice crunch from the bread of banh mi that adds to the experience. The pate, head cheese, and jambon were average and not memorable. The pickled radish and carrots needed more pickling and there was no cucumber, which is something I enjoy in my banh mi (and is included at DC sandwich). Overall the sandwich was average with the best part being the bread, even though it was not very crusty as I was hoping. With the grilled pork, it was much of the same but the pork was flavorful and better than the combination.
There is plenty of seating at the restaurant but service is a bit slow (at least at night when i was there). Parking is a bit of a problem as it the lot is small and awkwardly shaped. During busy times, I'm sure it would definitely be impossible to find a spot.
I give Lee's Sandwiches 3 out of 5 stars based on their banh mi alone. I do love the fact that they are 24 hours and the bread is fresh, which is more than I can say about the other 24 hour banh mi place. After talking to family members who have frequented Lee's in California over the years, they agree that the banh mi at Lee's has dropped in quality but claim that Lee's iced coffee is still the best. This is something I will have to try. Overall, I will be returning as there aren't many 24 hour restaurants that offer food other than burgers and fries and I will definitely be...
Read moreI used to live in California, and Lee’s Sandwiches is a familiar name to me. When I moved Maryland, I was very excited to see that Lee’s Sandwiches had opened a location in Falls Church.
I occasionally stop by this location whenever I visit Falls Church, Virginia. However, every single time, I have experienced rude treatment from the staff. Today, I visited the store because I had a guest from New Jersey with me. I honestly did not want to go, and unfortunately, my expectations were met—rudeness and lack of respect for customers beyond what I could have imagined.
Unfortunately for me, I once again encountered the same rude employee (She who is mid age, short hair - I think her name is Karen) After I placed my order, she completely ignored me and continued talking on her personal phone. She took the money from my hand, but when giving me change, she carelessly tossed it onto the counter. I cannot accept such behavior, especially since the store was not even busy at the time.
To make matters worse, she handed me a plastic bag and expected me to pack my own sandwich. As a paying customer, I expect to be served—not to serve myself. There is no reason for me to be treated like a beggar. I was not asking for a handout; I was paying for my food. And even if I were a beggar, no one should be treated that way.
When I spoke up about the situation, she blatantly told me she did not want to sell to me and threw my money back at me.
She is not a child who does not know any better; she is an adult who should understand proper behavior, especially in a customer service role.
Her actions are an embarrassment to the entire staff at the Falls Church location and negatively affect the reputation of the entire Lee’s...
Read moreDo NOT buy any snack or canned food at this place, items are EXPIRED. Not in days but years Expired. Relative purchased $20 snack last month that was one year expired. With 1.5 hour round trip drive, she decided to throw it away. My wife recently bought a $5 candy bag that expires 4 years ago ! Discovered after she ate one. I brought the candy bag in today to exchange and the owner/cashier insisted that it is 2023. I asked her to show me, and she refused. For $5, I did not want to escalate, so I said "ok, fine, forget it. I would like to buy the Baguette for today". Owner/cashier immediately said "no, I will not sell you the Baguette". Her rudeness is disappointing and funny at the same time. Most Vietnamese come to Lee for the Baguettes, everything else is below Vietnamese taste/quality standards comparing to other local Vietnamese stores. For big space comes big rent cost, with franchise cost and mostly empty store even on the weekend, my guess is Baguette sale could not cover most of Lee business expenses, so as the result, Lee starts selling high price and/or Expired products and not refund customer even for $5. Lee's 5 Baguettes and get one free is now a gimmick. Total 6 Baguettes now cost $18 (used to be $12) to cover for lack of sale on others. At this price, you could get equally great/better Baguettes from Wegman, Safeway, or other French bakery stores. And, Wegman/Safeway would refund your purchase if their products expired. BTW for Banh Mi with-meat, go to Banh Mi DC down the road. DC has better taste/quality. Because of Lee's Baguettes, I gave them 2 stars under food overall, otherwise it would...
