Before I thank this restaurant for the marvelous Bolivian experience I received in here, I gotta thank my fiancée for bringing me to this jewel. We were driving down from NYC on our way down to Florida where we live. But we could not just pass through the DC Metropolitan Area without stopping here for lunch or dinner. Therefore we stopped for the former rather than the latter. Because we were in a rush to continue our drive through the night.

The very first thing we ordered was a couple of Salteña empanadas. One chicken, one empanada. Because that is all I pretty much knew about Bolivian cuisine since I’m not Bolivian myself. My fiancée is. Since she is from Santa Cruz, she looked for her regional cuisine. But all she found was the Amazonian Cheese Bread cruceños know as Cuñapé. The restaurant mostly focuses on Andean Bolivian cuisine. Which is fine by me.

After we ate a piece of Cuñapé, we proceeded to order a Fricasé soup, Andean Pork Soup, to share. I really liked it. I had not had it since my childhood when I visited Bolivia at the age of five. So it brought me a few memories. Just like Humitas do. Because we also eat them in my native Peru. Not for nothing we are neighbors.

The best part of our big meal at the restaurant was our respective entrees. My fiancée ordered a Mixed Escabeche which she had not eaten since she left Bolivia many years ago. I did not try it because I did not like eating Escabeche as a child growing up in Southern Peru. Therefore I ordered a Plato Paceño, or Paceño Platter. I fell in love with the dish. I only wished they offered Peruvian Huancaina sauce but I know the restaurant is Bolivian, not Peruvian.

The next time I go back to the DC area with my fiancée, I am definitely going back to this restaurant with her. We do not mind them not offering many Bolivian Amazonian dishes. Because we loved the Andean dishes they offer. You cannot pass on Salteña empanadas at Bolivian restaurant. Those empanadas are their signature dish. The owner and her servers did definitely earn our...

Got lunch with my mom today. We both got the daily specials, a soup and main course for a reasonable price. I even got a saltena as an appetizer...It was cold. I found what seemed to be a hair in my saltena but didn't think much of it because I thought it might be fuz, it happens. No, I found another beard hair in my saltena a minute later(I'm a woman)...I told my waitress and she smiled and said, "I'll let them know and tell them to be more careful". No, I wanted a refund for the saltena I didn't even finish...She took it away and brought the soup, it was hot and good. My mom and I swapped our soups to get a bit of either since they were the two only options. I found an eyelash looking hair in my moms clear soup......I just stopped eating and said I'd rather wait for the main course since I had gotten nothing in feedback from our waitress. I was trying to let it go and enjoy our lunch. The main course came and I found another beard looking hair in it. I had had it. I didn't even get to really eat it. I told my waitress after I took a picture. She said, "oh, let me take it back". Nothing, again. I waited more than ten minutes for her to come back WITH MY CHECK...Then I went to tell her I wasn't paying for any of it. She said, "let me talk to my manager". By the time I waited more then 5 more minutes(there were 5 other people) we left. The manager caught me coming out the door to my car and said, "YOU DIDN'T PAY!". I told her I would not, not after finding 4 hairs in my food. What kind of restauraunt serves food like that? She said, "may god bless you". I yelled FU. She wanted me to pay $30 for 4 hairs, thats too much in any case. Most places wouldn't even charge you after hairs found but this manager, didn't care...I've been going here since I was little, I'm 21 now. The old managment did better, had lower prices and kept people more satisfied. I feel like everytime I've gone, I noticed they were upping all the prices. Please, think twice about going and search closely through your food. I will not...

I keep having multiple horrible experiences here. This is the last straw. The food is good but the management and owner are absolute horrible people. They treat their customers poorly, are very very rude and very mean. One time they gave me the wrong plate of food and I realized when I got home. She demanded I return the plate of food and picked up the correct plate. Due to her eagerness to get the plate back, I was concerned that she would re-plate the food and give it to another customer. So I asked Her what she would do with the plate of food and She said she would reheat it at home and eat it herself- I leave it up to you, the consumer, to do what you want with that information. Four months ago, I ordered empanadas. I ordered 8 and got the spicy ones. They were SO RANCID and spoilt. I tasted them and had to immediately spit it out once I tasted the sour cheese inside the empanada. The cheese inside was literally slimy and I haven’t ordered since. The last straw was that I ordered TEN (10) salteñas and paid nearly $30. When I arrived home I saw that I was only give 3 little sauces. 3 sauces for 10 saltenas? That’s ridiculous, I have a family of 8. Once I called to complain, she very rudely claimed that she should charge more to us (her customers) for the salteñas and that life is too expensive to give us an appropriate amount of sauce so she’s going to charge us .25c per sauce...

Takeout Review: Luzmila’s Restaurant – Falls Church, VA Every time I make it out to Falls Church, I make it a point to stop by Luzmila’s—and they never disappoint. This visit, I ordered takeout and once again, everything hit the mark. The revueltas pupusas were as satisfying as ever—gooey, cheesy, with that perfect balance of pork and beans. Paired with their curtido, which is fresh, tangy, and perfectly seasoned, it’s the kind of combination that makes you slow down and savor every bite. This time - I ate it way too fast before I remembered to take a picture.) ;( One of the reasons I keep coming back is the chicken salteñas—always consistent in quality and flavor. The pastry is soft and just slightly sweet, the filling is juicy and flavorful, and there’s never a dry bite. && of course the green sauce just tops off the sweet, savory fillings. I love getting a bite w/ the olives or an egg- my favorites!! This time, I branched out and also tried both the chicken and beef empanadas, and they were a hit. Generously filled, super juicy, and packed with bold, savory flavor—these might become a new go-to when I come back. Luzmila’s has a rare consistency you don’t often find. Even though I only get to this area every few months, I always know what I’m getting: delicious food made with care. Highly recommend!

I’m Bolivian and this is not how Bolivian food is made. Service was not great or helpful at all. I was visiting family and I’m two hours away from This restaurant. I ordered 4 salteñas, sopa de kawi and chicharron. Chicharron was extremely dry, the salteñas were NOT fully cooked and the sopa de kawi was made with chicken, and chicken was raw. When I called they hung up the phone on me, started accusing me that I didn’t buy food from them, and they refused to refund me my money. I still have the receipt from this restaurant. Unfortunately my experience was not good and as a Bolivian I do not recommend this restaurant. I had put the salteñas back into the oven because they were so undercooked. Check your orders before you leave their restaurant if you decide to order from them. No estaba bien hecho la comida no se vale asi no deben tratar mal a sus clientes. I had to put the salteñas back in the oven for them to cook.
