Last weekend, my partner and I ventured to Spacebar in Falls Church for a casual dinner, and it turned out to be one of the most unexpectedly delightful nights we've shared in a while. We'd heard murmurs about their legendary grilled cheese sandwiches and unique vibe, and this spot did not disappoint—it exceeded every expectation. The moment we walked in, we were transported. Emo rock played softly in the background, while the cult classic Spaceballs flickered on the TV, adding a touch of playful nostalgia to the room. The décor was unassuming yet full of character—cozy booths, ambient lighting, and an inviting bar lined with patrons laughing and chatting. Despite being busy, the space felt relaxed, like a place where you could hang out for hours. We ordered at the bar, where the staff greeted us with genuine warmth and enthusiasm. My partner went for the Cuban grilled cheese, while I couldn’t resist the classic Grilled Cheese #2, featuring Havarti and Gouda. Both came with perfectly crispy tater tots, golden and lightly seasoned—true comfort food heaven. The Cuban sandwich was a revelation—layers of smoky pork, tangy pickles, and melty cheese pressed to perfection. My Grilled Cheese #2 was simplicity elevated, with the gooey blend of cheeses pulling apart in long, satisfying strings. It was the kind of food that immediately makes you feel at home. The beer selection was as diverse as it was impressive, with everything from malty stouts to crisp ciders on tap. I opted for a refreshing sour beer, while my partner tried a bold IPA. Both were served ice-cold and paired beautifully with our indulgent meal. Beyond the food and drinks, what truly stood out was the vibe. The chef came out briefly to check on guests, beaming with pride over his creations. It’s rare to find such genuine passion, and it made our experience all the more special. After our meal, we needed a way to extend the good vibes into the night. That’s where Pull Up DC came in. We picked up their "Low Rider" strain, which was the ideal way to relax after such a cozy, satisfying dinner. Sitting back at home, reminiscing about our evening with a little help from Pull Up DC, felt like the perfect conclusion to a perfect date night. Spacebar is more than just a bar; it’s a love letter to comfort food, good music, and genuine hospitality. Whether you’re there for the stacked sandwiches, the endless beer options, or the nostalgic vibes, you’ll leave feeling like you’ve found a new favorite spot. Pair it with a Pull Up DC wind-down, and you’ve got yourself an unforgettable evening. We’ll definitely be back—next time, maybe to try one of their vegetarian or vegan options. But one thing’s for sure: the tots are...
Read moreA few months ago my friends and I decided to try out this spot for some grilled cheese sandwiches. We didn't realize how crazy it was going to be on a Friday night. It was so packed inside that people who were lining up before and after us left because they didn't want to wait for a table. There was very little seating inside since the restaurant itself was really small.
We decided to put in our order to-go and it was such a long wait that one of the booths freed up so we ended up dining in. It took around an hour from the time we walked in to the time we got our appetizers.
I don't think it's a good concept to have the bartenders be the person serving customers seated at the bar, as well as managing the tablets to input other customers' food orders. They seem to be really overworked although they tried their best to make sure everyone was taken care of. One of them wiped down our table for us after we sat down and gave us an extra ketchup bottle when we asked.
The kitchen was partially open concept. We could see the long line of receipts hanging off the rail and I felt so bad for the workers. It was clear who was working on which station and it seemed a little unbalanced.
This was my first time having tots and I was not disappointed. They're essentially bite-sized hashbrowns and they're best when fresh, especially with a bit of ketchup. My Mushroom melt grilled cheese was burnt on one side but it was fine. I took a bite of my friend's Green machine sandwich and I liked that one a lot more.
The welcome board on the wall at the entrance was interesting to look at while waiting. We had no idea Spacebar had the same parent company as Galaxy Hut. If their menu was similar, we probably would have gone to Galaxy Hut instead because of...
Read moreI would actually give it 4.5 stars because of the fact that it doesn't open untl 5 pm which is annoying and the reason I've been wanting to go for over a year and just got around to it. Went on a Saturday night and the place was very crowded. Staff was hopping with orders and drinks. We had to stand at first but eventually got a booth. There is a good beer selection at this place and the grilled cheese menu is really tough to decide because it all sounds good!
What I got was the meatloaf grilled cheese and it was absolutely delicious!!! Also, my friend got a large order to share of the tater tots with cheese and jalapenos and OMG...soooo yummy!!!! Overall it's a fattening pig fest to go there because everything is fried or grilled and covered in cheese but the food is worth it when you're gonna splurge on the diet once in a while. The atmosphere screamed dive or perhaps diner, but I definitely recommend the place. Too far for me in the evenings but if they were open for lunch I'd be there many a weekend, so on second thought... maybe it's good they don't open until dinner haha. FIVE...
