Cruising around the Arlington area, and this Ice Cream shoppe popped up as a top result in Google Maps.
This joint is the very definition of hole-in-the-wall; and I always love visiting such locations.
They have a lot of flavors to sample, but they were out of their more popular ones (such as Oreo) — which made sense, as I arrived late in the day and near closing time.
I sampled the Old School Vanilla Chip, S’mores, and Cookie Dough; sadly, none were my cup of tea. I did like the Vanilla Chip the most though, which left a minty aftertaste in my mouth for some reason.
I ultimately rolled the dice on a Chocolate Fudge Brownie Sundae. It comes with two scoops, so I chose semi-randomly (and hastily) and went with Chocolate Peanut Butter and Butter Pecan. It came included with nuts, two of those small round brownie bites, fudge syrup and whipped cream and cherries on top.
I ate my Sundae whilst walking on the sidewalk outside. The day was moderately chilly, but very sunny. I made it a point to avoid warm places and tried to find shade while ambulating around.
The Sundae was rather decent. The one huge plus point I will say, is that it felt rather light on sugar, despite probably being loaded on calories. I liked that it didn’t seem to be a guilty pleasure as the majority of ice cream oft feels like.
The other plus points I gave to courteous and speedy service and general kindness rendered. The employees behind the booths acted as gracious and attentive hosts, for all intents and purposes. They did not seem to mind that I took a long(ish) time to decide, for instance.
Overall, nice ice cream shop and hole-in-the-wall joint in the heart of Arlington. Recommend stopping by if you’re in the area. I’ll likely be back at least once more, to sample some of their more decadent and...
Read moreI am hoping my experience the last 2 times at Toby's will not become the norm as I have previously had really great interactions. Last week, we visited the new Vienna location in which they were sold out of the Green Tea flavor which has become my absolute favorite. While I can understand this sometimes happens, I decided to try the Arlington(my typical location) today in hopes to revive my Toby's experience. To my delight they had Green Tea, however it was very disappointing compared to previous times. The first was in the fact that I had ordered a Regular because I wanted a larger serving than I normally would get since I missed out last week. The person behind me had ordered 2 singles. When my ice cream was set up on the counter it was the same size as the single cones. When I questioned it I was assured it was in fact a regular despite the fact that the person behind me paid for single scoops and I paid for a regular size but yet they were all the same size? The second disappointment came when the ice cream had no flavor compared to normal and was very icy. Perhaps today's experience was an off day. I am hopeful my next encounter is much different as I have always bragged to my friends about how much I...
Read moreThe ice cream was okay, not the best I've experienced but definitely not bad at all. The service, however, yuck! They were disorganized and rude. I have a large family so we waited before entering the shop out of respect for social distancing rules. Upon entering the shop one young lady began to help me, then a second came over to assist but only confused myself and the first young lady. I repeated myself numerous times but still got an incorrect order once we paid.
The gentleman that was working there allowed a woman to cut in front of us while we were waiting. This was beyond rude and made me pretty angry because: We were giving them great business in a single order - 7 orders! Allowing this woman to cut in front of us made me uncomfortable as 6 ft was impossible to maintain since we were already at the register when he started to serve her Him prioritizing this woman only DELAYED our order's progress
When I spoke up about my discomfort, the man at the registered pretty much rolled his eyes at me and continued to serve this "important" woman. Then, once I realized one of the orders was wrong, the girl who messed it up walked away mumbling under her breath about how she asked me a...
