Tonight my family and I dined at Eli’s Tavern at the Coonamessett Inn. Having been to their excellent brunch in the past, I was excited to finally dine there for dinner. However, it was the furthest thing from the pleasurable experiences I’ve had there for brunch in the past.
We had a 6:30 reservation that we were immediately checked in for. After that it was just a waiting game. Twenty five minutes had passed before we approached an employee asking if we had a server. A server immediately came to our table to take our drink order as well as our food order since we had been waiting for so long and we knew what we wanted.
For an appetizer we ordered the mac and cheese bites special. When our server eventually came over with our drinks she informed us that they were out of the app but would bring over some dinner rolls while we waited for our entrees. Five minutes later our server came back (without rolls) to let us know that they indeed had the appetizer, but were out of one of our ordered entrees (also a special). When our app finally arrived, they were frozen cold in the center. We returned the plate and asked for the dinner rolls that we were promised but never did receive.
When it was time for the entrees, nothing came out at the same time. I was lucky enough to have my bacon cheeseburger delivered first, only to find it cold from the first bite. At this point I had asked to speak with the manager.
More time had passed and we were impatiently looking around the restaurant for someone that looked like a manager. We eventually found her chatting with other patrons and presumably regulars, while we continued to sit there beyond unsatisfied, before tending to our table. This was an immediate red flag to us knowing there was no urgency by any of the staff, or the manager Dawn, to fix our meals or experience. Although Dawn was nice enough to comp our bill, it still left a sour taste in all of our mouths, as we weren’t tempted to order something else for a third time.
I am typically not one to leave a review, especially knowing that all restaurants have their bad days. However, I was so displeased with my experience, it was one that I will...
Read moreDisappointing dinner experience here tonight. We had been looking at trying this place for dinner and noticed on their website that they had “half-priced burgers” as the special on Tuesdays, which sealed the deal. When we were seated we asked to confirm that was the case (as it wasn’t on the menu). Our waiter went and checked and then confirmed with a passing “yes”. My partner ordered the double cheeseburger and I ordered the impossible burger. I told my partner while eating “I’m glad this is a $9 and not an $18 burger” - which is just to say it was underwhelming. When the waiter brought the check it had only the double cheeseburger rung up at half price. We asked why the impossible burger wasn’t included in the special and he said it just wasn’t included. When he came back with the card I reiterated to our server that we felt misled that he had confirmed burgers were half price and charged full price for the impossible burger. He made no attempt to make it right or apologize for the misunderstanding and just said “cheeseburger only”. Honestly if it hadn’t been half price I would have just ordered something else - based on other reviews it sounds like most of their food is good. But we are really unlikely to come back now. On the positive, the outside deck overlooking the...
Read moreDinner at a Eli's Tavern was phenomenal. I had dinner at Eli's on a Thursday night, which was my last night on the cape for a week with a friend. It was a great dinner to cap off the week.
I had no complaints about my drink, a captain and coke.
Before my entree, I enjoyed multiple rounds of oysters which were only a dollar an oyster on Thursday night. The second round was a bit sandy, but I enjoyed all of them. One of the reasons we attended was the special, but it wasn't listed on any menu when we were there and I had to ask. I only knew about it because of the website.
The chowder seemed standard. It was good, but not anything special.
The scallop dish I had for dinner was one of the best meals I had on the cape all week.
Service was a bit slow, and it was often hard to hear the waiter. He was wearing a mask, but I have not had this difficulty at many other restaurants where waiters also wore masks.
If you want to sit outside when they are having live music, I recommend making a reservation plenty in advance. We only called the day of, and due to this we were only able to get...
