Rocko's Ice Cream — Restaurant in Fanwood

Received a Rocko’s coupon in my Value Pak. Looked it up online and saw homemade ice cream which is always my first choice. Got to the shop and clearly no “homemade”. Brands of Welch’s, Hood and Kemp’s only. I asked the staff behind the counter, they didn’t know what I was talking about (nice staff btw). Since I was already there, decided to try the brands. After finishing my sundae, I looked up the website to make sure I wasn’t crazy. Went back inside to show the staff the site when the owner came over. Instead of apologizing he proceeded to tell me he didn't create the site. So I nicely said it’s your business, your site, you should know what you are advertising and what you are paying for. He then proceeded to argue with me that he hates the internet, social media and yelp reviews, and that it’s all poison. He insisted the brands he sells are “homemade” because they are made “somewhere” by “somebody”. I don’t think so. I guess next time I go to a bakery I have to make sure the bread isn’t Wonder Bread. So instead of apologizing to his customer, he argued with me for about 10 minutes and denied everything. Kept insisting it was “homemade”. So there you have it folks. Major false advertising and the customer was wrong. I would have NEVER gone there if I knew prior it wasn’t homemade which is what I told him. I would have preferred going to the supermarket for a half gallon of Turkey Hill. So clearly since he hates social media - he won’t be reading this. Never again.. BTW the ice cream...

Updated 12 Jul. 2024: The ice cream is still v good, but service needs serious work. I was the only customer in the shop but still had to wait several minutes to be served, and for my order to be prepared -- all because one of the assistants on duty kept chit-chatting with the other one, who kept answering him. I almost apologised, as I have on prior such occasions, for interrupting their conversation.

My friend and I were in town shopping and decided to check out the shop since changing ownership. The staff was young and while not discourteous definitely wasn't friendly. They actually seemed disinterested. The ice cream we ordered, both the hard variety, had a grainy texture. And mine had a freezer like taste.
