Morgan did a great job, she was attentive and got our orders correct!
This is being written with the purpose of providing feedback and criticism in the hopes that the restaurant applies and reassesses.
Issue lies with the food and the atmosphere. The music was far too "German Rave" and not enough "Families come here and people on dates come here". There were an upsetting amount of flies.
The food was very disappointing, for the second time. I had come once in the past with family and thought that the food was lackluster and that the service prior was not impressive.
I find myself educated enough to comment on these things as I am a bartender now, and was a server not two months ago.
First was the cheese curds, these were fantastic. My girlfriend and I finished them off very quickly. I just wish they were allowed more time to drip so that they were not nearly as greasy but lets be real, they're cheese curds. They're gonna be greasy.
What I ordered was the BBQ bacon burger. the taste itself was just fine, but choosing to use shredded lettuce on the same layer as a creamy sauce made the bottom bun slide around a lot and got very messy. It also caused added sogginess and debris falling from the burger. The cheese was placed lazily, half on top of the burger and half falling off and melted onto the bottom bun. Knowing that the cheese was cooked onto the burger instead of added after the fact shows how lazy the cooks were, and how the concept of remaking something so that it looks nice does not exist to the kitchen. the top bun was equally as soggy by the end of the meal and this can be attributed to not toasting the buns prior to assembly of the burger, and poor assembly/use of shredded lettuce instead of leaf lettuce. The bacon was cut far too thick and made bites difficult to plan and execute. The patty itself was well cooked and seasoned and the sauces are an excellent pairing for this burger.
The fries on the side were a little sad. The fries themselves were of good quality, and they were cooked through. They were nice and warm when received. The issue lies in the lack of good seasoning. Whatever seasoning is on there does not taste like anything that isn't a forefront flavor of either of the three dipping sauces I tried. (Ketchup, the spicy sauce that came with the cheese curds, and the sauce that came with the burger itself.) The seasoning was there, but the taste of it was weak. I could feel it in my mouth but there was absolutely no sign of any flavor.
Last was the dish my girlfriend received. It was the open faced roast beef sandwich paired with onion strings and mashed potatoes. the first issue I noticed again is that the bread was not toasted prior to assembly. This is an obvious oversight that is absolutely unacceptable in the realm of hot sandwiches and burgers. It leads to extremely soggy bread, and even if it weren't soggy, the bread itself would be floppy, and difficult to eat. Second, the roast beef itself was poorly cut and undercooked, albeit suppored to be rare since it's roast beef. There were massive amounts of undercooked portions of the meal, and far too many masses of unsoftened fat within the meat for most of it to be palatable. With proper cleaning of the meat during prep, this might not be an issue. Third issue was the gravy. It was extremely bland, tasted store bought, and was in large excess for what was needed with the dish. It drowned the bread, and caused everything to taste bland.
The roast beef open faced sandwich was quality of that which you would find at a tavern for 1 silver coin in medieval europe.
The prices were very high for food of this quality. I understand that food need to be priced in a sustainable way. The solution to this, is making food that is worth the price that...
Read moreEvery time I have gone here, I’ve been underwhelmed. Last time we were here, the food was pretty mediocre and flies were all over us annd our food . We went tonight because of a fundraiser. I would never pick this restaurant and this experience only served to confirm my opinion. We waited about 10 minutes for a table, which wasn’t bad. When we were seated, we waited a bit more than usual to be able to order which also was fine. However, once we ordered, it was over an hour before our food came out. I finally had to ask the waitress if she knew when our food was going to come. My family was getting very hungry. She finally brought out the food for my kids and I waited another 5 to 8 minutes for my food. The food here is expensive and it’s nothing to write home about. It’s really just mediocre bar food. It would be different if the service or the atmosphere totally made up for it. But in the entire hour, we sat waiting for our food, our waitress never stopped to say that she was sorry for the wait or that our food would be out soon. She basically just ignored us until we asked. The table next to us had all their food served to them In to go Bags because it was taking so long and they left immediately upon getting their food. Our server told us the kitchen wasn’t prepared for the amount of people they had this evening . But I think that’s where the dining staff have to step up and they didn’t. It looked like there was a manager standing at the desk. Why wasn’t that person walking around and ensuring the patrons that had a long wait had drinks or something to pass the time. I see that all the time at other restaurants. This place has their head in the sand. I don’t know why they still get enough people going there. At some point, you would think that this bad food, bad service and bad atmosphere would catch...
Read moreI’ve been to The Tavern Bar and Grill several times before and always had great food and service—but unfortunately, today was a completely different story.
We arrived at 11:35 AM with a group of 9 (without a reservation, which we understand), and were seated around 11:50 AM. So far, so good. But things quickly went downhill from there.
Our server introduced himself and let us know it was his first day. We don’t blame him—it’s not easy starting out—but that’s exactly why the trainer should have been more involved. Instead, both he and the person training him were mostly absent, and the basic expectations of service were completely overlooked.
He took our drink order and then disappeared. We didn’t see him again until 12:17 PM, when we had to ask if we could finally place our appetizer order. Our apps came out around 12:40 PM—give or take—after another follow-up. We checked in again at 1:08 PM to ask about our meals. During this whole time, no one checked on us. No drink refills, no small talk, no updates, and no apologies for the slow service. We had to flag someone down just to get our food ordered, which didn’t arrive until 1:30 PM—nearly two hours after we first arrived.
When the food finally showed up, 5 out of our 9 dishes were either incorrect, cold, or just poorly made. The “limited-time Birria tacos” were dry and flavorless—limited-time for a reason, apparently. The ravioli was burnt and overcooked, the chicken wrap barely had any chicken, and the coleslaw was easily the worst we’ve ever had.
We’ve had great experiences here in the past, but today was a major disappointment. The lack of training and oversight was obvious, and unfortunately, it left a bad enough impression that we likely won’t be...
