I dont like to put 1 star ratings unless it's really a 1 star. The reason of my eating is because we came to dallas from houston for my son's tournament this weekend and wanted to authentic mexican food so we searched on Google and found this place. The ratings seemed good so we decided to give it a try even though we knew the place was small looking at the pictures. We were a party of 10. We couldn't find the place so I decided to call to ask for directions and the lady on the phone directed us in the right path. When we got there, there were 2 families of 4-6 people each on 2 separate tables. There were, what appeared to be, a waitress, a waiter and a young girl (could have been another waitress) sitting on another table and as soon as they saw us, they got. Meanwhile, we saw that there was a long table available with 8 chairs and another small table on the side with 2 more chairs, so automatically I thought, we could ask them if we could put them together. While we stood there, not one of the people working there said anything, not even a smile. I dont know if they were waiting for us to sit until they came over. So I started to tell some of the people in our party to sit while we waited for one of them to come by to ask if it was ok to move the small table over..... we waited for about a minute with almost half of the party standing at the entrance (because they wanted to wait until we had the small table ready and didn't want to sit and leave those 2 extra people standing). One of the waitresses looked at us but stood next to one of the other tables occupied by another party playing with a small boy sitting on the table. The other young girl that I think was another waitress went over to their fridge and got a soda and took it to the other table that was already there as well and went to the back of the restaurant. And the waiter went to the back of the restaurant as soon as he got up from the table where he was sitting at when we got there. I thought, maybe he's going to get something or tell somebody that a big party just arrived but when he came back around, he looked towards the entrance and then turned back around towards the back of the restaurant.... I dont know what he was trying to do but in all this time no one said anything like "we'll be right with you" or "welcome, please take a seat" or anything. I'm not the person to judge other people that quick and to feel superior than anyone else but I do think that, at least a "we'll be right with you" would of been nice. We honestly didn't feel welcome, nor the rest of the party, so we decided to depart. Too bad I didn't get to try the food but if the service was better...
Read moreNew owners... Pupusas are NO longer on the menu! Disappointing, since THAT was my reason for giving this place a try. But since I was already there and hungry, I decided to give it a try anyway...
I was pleasantly surprised to receive complimentary warm chips and salsa prior to ordering. The salsa was really delicious, but not HOT hot, if that's what you're into. I ordered 4 tacos... Lengua, Cabeza, Pastor, and Fajita (beef). Usually Lengua is my favorite, but in this case, the Pastor was the best and most flavorful. The fajita was my least favorite, but honestly ALL the meats were better than most of the taquerias I've been to. However, I WAS surprised that I was charged $2.95 for the Lengua taco, instead of the $1.75 menu price for a flour tortilla taco (de harina taco). The corn tortilla tacos are $1.50 ea and WELL worth it!! DELICIOUS corn tortillas!!
What REALLY made the tacos stand out were the HOMEMADE tortillas!! Both the corn AND flour tortillas were handmade, soft, delicious and excellent!
All of the usual street taco sides were presented and of excellent quality and freshness... Cilantro, onions, limes, and even sliced radishes. They also brought the green and red salsas which were both distinctive, tasty and not painfully hot.
Having been pleasantly surprised by the homemade tortillas, I decided to try the Flan, which was advertised all over the restaurant. This was a mistake... It was heavy, dense and commercially made and packaged. I prefer a lighter flan that is a true egg custard with real carmelized sugar. To each his own.
Overall, this was a pleasant...
Read moreExcellent selection of Central American plates. The sopas (thick corn pancakes topped with meat, cabbage, queso fresco) and selection of meat (barbacoa, fijita, al pastor, carnitas, chorizo, chicken) along with their red and green salsas are superb. The breakfast tacos and breakfast burritos are well made, and quite large ($1.99/burrito). Additionally, they offer Pupusas (stuffed corn pancakes) which come filled with cheese or cheese and meat. I have yet to try anything else off the menu, but I have been pleasantly satisfied both times I have visited. All items are made fresh to order, so if you plan on feeding a group of people (to go pickups are available) allow for 10-20 minutes after ordering. English is not well understood, so be prepared to point to the chalkboard menu hanging above...
