I was very disappointed in the quality of the food & I'll never eat here again. Whomever is cooking here has no idea what they're doing & they're skimping on quality ingredients while charging more than I've paid previously. I paid $60 for large egg drop soup, 2 eggrolls and 2 dinner entrees with fried rice + extra vegetable.
First time eating from First Wok after its return to Farmington. Was a regular customer when it was previously in Farmington & have been getting take-out from the Park Hills location. The food has always been excellent.
At this restaurant, the entrees come with steamed white rice. If you want fried rice, it's $1.00 extra. If you want veggies in the fried rice, it's an additional $3.25. I didn't add egg because I thought egg is always in fried rice. Not this place, it's an extra fee. The fried rice was very dark brown & tasted like nothing but soy sauce. I asked for regular fried rice with extra vegetables. There were a few large pieces of broccoli & 2 long pieces of carrot & that was it.
The fried rice that came with the entree is plain rice soaked in soy sauce & nothing more. The taste was terrible.
The Kung Pao Chicken was 90% celery with chunks of carrot. I had to dig around to find the few small pieces of chicken that were in there. The sauce was very dark brown, sort of burnt tasting & tasted like it was straight out of a jar. I asked for regular level of spicy, which I always do, but this was so spicy I couldn't finish my serving. I also couldn't finish it because one can only eat so many mouthfuls of celery.
The Pork with Cabbage had 8 inch long spirals of pork that were covered in mush. The cabbage was good. The dish had the same very dark brown sauce as the Kung Pao Chicken, and it tasted like it was straight from a jar and burnt. That "burnt" taste in Asian brown sauces is from using a sauce straight out of the jar. It's a condensed flavor that should be diluted a little.
The egg drop soup and the eggrolls were both good. The dinner entrees & fried rice were barely edible. People are not going to pay high prices for terrible food. I expect they will get a lot of patrons that remember the good quality previously served by First Wok - Farmington. Like me, they...
Read moreThe food didn't taste bad at all but the establishment needs work. No ice meant your drink was in a bottle. You're seated and given menus, a fortune cookie and individually wrapped plastic forks. All the food is served in plastic containers with lids; to-go containers. The fried rice is just brown rice, maybe it's white but flavored and looks brown. There wasn't really an Asian feel to it though, no little veggies, eggs or any of the traditional fixings. The service could have been better, she seemed kinda stuck up and when I asked for pepper for my soup I got 3 tiny packets, much less than I would usually use. My food was delivered 5 minutes before my boyfriend's food and they don't really have any American options like ranch dressing for dipping (he got hot wings). $30+ for 2 people eating off the lunch menu seemed a bit much for what we got and although it looked cheap, it didn't taste bad. I probably wouldn't go back if I was back...
Read moreFirst Wok is my go-to Chinese food restaurant in town. We are so happy that they have moved back to Farmington! The food is always delicious, the service is excellent, and the prices are reasonable.
I've tried a variety of dishes from the menu, and I've never been disappointed. My favorite is the Orange Chicken Dinner Combo. The food is always fresh and flavorful, and the portions are generous. We always share 1 entree and pictured is just my half.
The service at First Wok is also top-notch. The staff is friendly and attentive, and they always go out of their way to make sure that I have a good experience.
Overall, I highly recommend First Wok to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Chinese...
