Iron Horse Sports Pub — Restaurant in Farmington

Second time at Iron Horse in Unionville CT. Totally different experiences. Went about a month ago. Bar was busy. The bartender Alex was great. I was surrounded by regulars and the vibe was fun. Half price burgers on Mondays made it even better. Talked with guy next to me. Whole place just felt comfortable. Burger was decent, not great but it didn't matter. So I was in the area again and thought I'd go back. Walked in, Alex was there as was another bartender. Never got his name. Place died out as soon as Alex left, coincidence I don't know. Ordered a burger and a beer. Food came pretty quick and was actually much better than the one I had previously. However the vibe was totally different. The male bartender hung out with a friend or favorite regular. Had to work to get a refill. Place felt dull and unwelcoming. No more half price burgers on Mondays either it appears. I probably said 15 words the whole time I was there. Didn't enjoy myself in the least and was ignored. No big deal but I thought maybe I'd found someplace special. Will look elsewhere. So, my manager at William Raveis Avon office announced we were having our annual Damon Runyon Research for Cancer fundraiser at a bar in Unionville. I immediately said if its at the same bar we went to last year...forget it. She replied "no no no it's at Iron Horse Sports Pub".... located in the plaza behind McDonalds. Let's just say.... I came home and told hubby all about hit. If you want better than average food with good size portions, generous pours on the adult beverages, fantastic TV's. This is the place. Love the giant bar. The only place that I know of now that has a giant bar is Carbones in Bloomfield and The Talcott Mountain Collective in Simsbury which that bar length sets the record.. We ordered to share the brussels sprouts, nachos and calamari. I wanted my own bowl of everything. We packed the house and we didn't have to wait at all. The Trivia was very well run. Our trivia team name: "the naughty nurses" . We have a patent on that name. The MC (who was a hoot) did not need a microphone and their music selection was tops. Staff is always very nice when I go in but the pizza has just gone down hill I’m sorry to say. This the third time I’ve tried it and it’s 1. Like card board and 2. What restaurant puts slices of pizza on top of each other? Slices go side by side so the cheese doesn’t stick to each other although Unfortunately this pizza doesn’t stick bc I don’t k ow if they wait till it’s cold before they put it in the box but I’ve hat piping hot pizza from the restaurant 10 miles away and I literally live behind this restaurant so I don’t understand how it’s cold and looks three days old by the time I get it home.
