Go eat anywhere else! This location is awful! Food quality & service are non-existent.
This is based off of several recent trips at this location. I Macado's and really enjoy it at all locations aside from the Farmville location. Parking is horrible & very limited. This location actually has two buildings, with a small patio area with a fire pit in between. You have to present to the main dining room and then they decide where to seat you.
We stopped in last night (11/2) for dinner. Three adults and one child. When we went inside the door, there was a female with long blonde hair and a bright pink hoodie just inside the kitchen. She was portioning out ketchup into small cups. She turned and looked at us and said she would be right with us before she finished filling up the ketchup cups. She then came out and looked around the restaurant and then said that the main dining room was closed, and asked if we would mind sitting in the bar section. We arrived slightly after 8 PM; they are open until 11 PM. We walked over to the second building and it was a sea of dirty tables, that hadn't been pre-bussed or anything. Thankfully we waited outside in the cold by the small fire pit for them to clean the table. Once seated, there was a long wait before we were greeted by the bartender to get our drink order. There was no cocktail server waiting on tables. There was a middle aged woman in a blue shirt that was aimlessly going around doing some cleaning but not actually doing much. The bartender has to tend the bar, and the tables so the table service suffers. We finally get drinks and place order for appetizers. The appetizers actually made it to the table before she came back around to take the dinner order. If you've ever been to this location, you know it takes forever to get apps to the table. We got he salsa con queso ($10). It is a cheese queso dip with salsa in it. It was served with mainly cheese, and only a few floating specs of tomato. It normally comes in a round croc like bowl, and it was sent out in a shallow soup bowl. It was clear that it was microwaved in this bowl as there was a dry crust ring around the edge. We also ordered boneless wings as that was the daily special (0.39 each). The menu says that the wings are served with ranch or blue cheese, yet we were charged 0.75 for them.
We ordered the kids meal cheese pizza and this did come out before the other food and that was nice. It was not the normal kids pizza. It was a tortilla wrap with sauce and cheese. IF they were out why not just say so instead of trying to make a hodge-podge creation.
Our main meal consisted of more wings, the Chicken Cordon Boo, and the Titanic. The wings and chicken sandwich came out together and it was another 15 minutes before the Titanic came out. The menu says that the Titanic is served with au jus, yet I was charged for it. None of the other locations do this.
We ordered a ranch bowl, and its just that, a bowl of ranch. They have good ranch, and it is a charge for this. Understandable. I still want the sauces that the menu says comes with my meals, and don't expect to be charged for them.
Drinks are single serving unless you convert to tea or water and get up to get your own refill. If you need to go boxes, I hope you can scope out the stand to get them or you'll be carting what slop your taking with you in your pocket.
The sandwich meat was tough, and dry. The lettuce was wilted. Fries came out cold. The fruit looked like it had been frozen and thawed out with that clear/glossy look to it.
I suppose if your a college kid just looking to get drunk, this would be a good destination. For all others, avoid it like the plague. Just to be clear, I have had several experiences like this recently. I get that things happen, and people have bad days, but this is a pattern for this location. I've worked in the service industry previously and you can just tell when things aren't right. The other Macado's locations are going strong with no issues like this. Most of the photos posted are stock. Likely my last visit to...
Read moreI’ve always wanted to try this spot although I’ve heard mixed reviews. There are several other places we usually hit when visiting Farmville, and this little town has a great charm about it and some great food. Today was the day the day we finally Macado’s happen, and it happened to be an extremely hot and humid day after some heavy rain. Now, we are pretty accommodating, as both of us were in the business once upon a time, however, our introduction to this establishment was the host arguing with an elderly couple. Apparently, the staff was coming out of the lunch rush, and the only sections with servers left on the clock were outside. There were plenty of empty seats inside, they just were not sitting them, as I guess it was too difficult for the servers to take a few indoor tables as they walked back and forth. Now, I get it and managed restaurants for years - you have a floor plan - however, this couple was older and obviously had some health issues. The lady pleaded to sit inside, and if I was the couple, I would have just left. We decided to bypass the argument, and just sit at the bar - which is also outside.
First off, as far as ambience and environment, not sure what the catch is, or what it is supposed to be, but guess it is like a bar meets gourmet sandwich restaurant. There is a sign that says Irish Pub over the bar, but we would have never guessed it was an Irish Pub - but at least they are kind enough to tell you it is. I guess the name is kind of a clue, but other than the sign, there is nothing else that makes this an Irish Pub. Place is cozy enough though, and the heat did not seem so bad once you adjusted. It was well shaded, but no airflow of any kind, which I will get back to. Even the elderly couple eventually sat out there, and they seemed to be okay at first.
Next, for a self advertised pub, the beer selection is very poor. Being in a college town a short distance from RVA, this is disappointing. RVA is well know for its craft breweries, and I do not understand why local restaurants do not capitalize on that. So if you are looking for craft IPAs, they did not have any, not even in bottle. In fact, they did not have any IPAs at all. No worries though, the server suggested Miller Lite instead - not sure how they are comparable.
Now for the food, which was quite excellent except for one thing - the massive amounts of flies. Remember I mentioned the lack of airflow? Well, it would have helped. As soon as our food hit the table, they swarmed. We had to eat fast, and constantly swat. It was a fierce battle full of fury and fire, but we finally wrestled our food from them. However, in the battle we were forced to scarf down our food so fast we almost choked - if only I had that craft beer. In all seriousness, what little we were able to enjoy of the food it was quite tasty.
After operating and owning restaurants for years, there was one important rule I learned, you must adapt and react. This restaurant failed to do so on this day, and this is a reflection of a manager’s poor decision making. Why would you stack all of your last servers outside when the heat, humidity, and flies are unbearable? Maybe it was the servers that were being stubborn? At some point, a staff member’s stubbornness cost this business money. We will stick to our go-to’s while visiting Farmville, and I’m sure the elderly couple will not return, along with the several other people that constantly swatted and sweated during their late lunch. One couple even gave up, and just grabbed to-go boxes and left. Now, you can’t control Mother Nature, but when your inside seating has empty seats, this made absolutely no sense.
It’s a shame really, because the food was very good, but the experience just was not. There is more to a restaurant than food, and we get so tied up on systems, costs, plans, and keeping the employees happy, that we forget the most important part of a restaurant is the...
Read moreWent here late night, when asked if we could sit at a booth the host laughed and said “Ha! No. Absolutely not” in such a way we thought he was joking, he was not. I asked kindly if it had a been a busy night and the guy responds with “yeah, it’s been terrible. So many clubs and families tonight, crying babies, just awful. Can’t wait to close.” dropped us off at our table with some menus. This wasn’t even the worst of it.
Our server took a good 15 minutes to stop by our table. I had a few questions and landed on some food - BLT. My partner got some wings & a sandwich. The wings were dropped off, then his sandwich (entree) a minute later.
The server, as she dropped his entree, says “I’ll give you a few minutes to look at the menu, we’re out of bacon”…. Couldn’t have told us before dropping all the food at once to the table? Didn’t come back for another 15minutes, husband basically half way done with his meal. I was at a total loss. I ordered a pb&j in frustration - worst pb&j I’ve ever had somehow (barely any jelly). The kicker - server knew I couldn’t eat any of the food my husband ordered as I mentioned having a dairy allergy & everything he ordered had cheese / dairy.
Server never once said sorry, didn’t care how awful she was treating us, didn’t acknowledge any responsibility in ruining our late night meal. Brought out 4 different tables food before dropping the pb&j to us almost 25 minutes later, husband completely done with his food.
I’ve worked in restaurants and customer service all my life, my husband was an executive chef. I understand having a bad night, but this was the most audaciously disrespectful behaviour I’ve ever seen. If it was a movie I’d laugh at how absurd it truly was.
Sincerely hope it was personal, treating guests like this is a great way to never have repeat customers. Really sad and hope no one ever gets treated the way we were last night.
Whoever was running the bar & serving last night in dining / outdoor patio area (June 21 2025 around 1030-11pm) should 100% be fired. There’s too much that went wrong, very obviously that person does not care about the business or anyone, at all.
Don’t recommend, 0/10, horrible service, “everything’s frozen” quote from our server, the wings...
