Poplar Sips — Restaurant in Farmville

I've never posted a bad review in my life, and I was so excited for another coffee shop in Farmville. The shop itself is beautiful and the coffee is decent, but the customer service is extremely lacking. Every time I've come here the wait has been super long (like 20-30 minutes for a single drink) and staff were cold and hardly acknowledged us. At first I chalked it up to the fact that they just opened and maybe are still figuring things out...but I came here 4 or 5 more times over a period of months and had the same experience. Recently I went in and immediately received a snappy "it's going to be a 20 minute wait" from the lady behind the counter. There was only one other table of 4 in the whole place. We didn't have time to wait around so we left.

I love supporting small businesses and want to see them thrive, but people need to know that customer service still matters, and ultimately the way you treat your customers makes...

Today was my first time visiting Poplar Sips. I was overjoyed to hear a second coffee shop opening here in Farmville; unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations.

First, my latte and bagel (which tasted quite good, to be fair) took quite a few moments to come out. I can say with 150% certainty this was not the young ladies running the counter's faults. They were hardworking, very kind and sociable, and doing wonderfully.

I'm more inclined to blame it on the woman who I assume is the manager or owner-- There was a grown woman verbally degrading these two student workers the entire time I was there. That is NOT right. They were working hard and clearly trying, and yet I overheard one girl getting lectured over cream cheese on a bagel.

I stopped by Poplar Sips in Farmville, VA, and it was an absolute treat! The bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich was perfectly cooked — warm, flavorful, and so satisfying. I paired it with one of their fresh green juices, which was crisp, refreshing, and packed with goodness. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was cozy, and everything felt made with care.
