First experience Pros: The menu has quite a variety of dishes. Surprisingly it even has scrambled egg with tomatoes, which isn't typical in Chinese restaurants from my experience. It is something made in Asian home cooking. The serving size was right for the price. Food looks very authentic. Cons: It could have just been an off day for the chef, but this place has a lot of potential... And it pains me to say that a low quality Chinese take out place tastes better than what I had. The food looks right and very authentic. If you compare the looks of the food to a higher grade Asian restaurant, you wouldn't know the difference. However, the dishes lacked the flavor one would expect from the dishes. I had the following Hot and sour soup - it was neither spicy or sour. I had to add pepper to it for some flavor. It is a staple in a lot of Chinese restaurants and I was really surprised at how it lacked the flavors that defines the soup.
Soup dumpling - every region makes their own style of flavor. The soup in it... Not exactly good compared to others. The sauce provided was not that typically used for soup dumplings. I am not sure what was it, but it wasn't black vinegar.
Tofu and boiled fish - the sauce the fish came in really lacked flavor. Rather surprised at the lack of flavor from the presentation of the dish.
Eggplant with ginger sauce - this was my favorite. It tasted great. It is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was like eating a French fry made of eggplants.
Fortune cookie - I wish I was kidding but the fortune cookie does taste different from others I had. It doesn't taste bad though.
But do give this place a chance, I could've had a bad first experience. The food has so much potential. If the flavor was right, this restaurant can easily be comparable to ones in major cities in the north eastern states. I would really like to see this business flourish because it really has a lot of potential with its food.
I think it was the owner asked us if eveything was alright. I didn't have the heart to tell him after seeing how well made the dishes were. The chef is skilled to make the dishes look authentic but the flavor was lacking. I still would like to think it was an off day for the chef.
Will visit again though to try...
Read moreWe tried Mr. K's Authentic Chinese right after he opened. We had mixed reviews with that food. However, we decided to go back tonight.
It was not crowded but there was only one girl being the hostess, waitress and doing other jobs. A lady at the counter expressed her disdain because she said she was told it was going to be 45 minutes and her order had not been taken yet. The girl was going to seat us but proceeded to help this lady because she had been waiting. The girl did tell us it was going to be 45 minutes, i appreciated that up front. I left it up to my husband and he said yeah we're already here. We sat ourselves in a booth.
The girl came to get drink orders. We got water and hot jasmine tea. Automatically, we ordered the garlic ribs appetizer.
It was a little bit of a wait but then my husband ordered the squirrel fish (fried sea bass with sweet and sour sauce) and it came with white rice.
I ordered shrimp dumplings (they came out after rest of food had came which was understandable, they take longer), egg rolls and shrimp with broccoli which came with white rice.
The ribs were good, nice garlic flavor and tasty...they were a little greasy but thats to be expected. No complaints.
I loved the shrimp dumplings, they are good even without the dipping sauce. I really like shrimp and i like garlic and i like the texture of dumplings like those.
Egg rolls...i couldn't eat because i was full.
My shrimp and broccoli, ate as much as possible. It was very good. Nice flavor, fresh broccoli and carrots. Not too salty and if you've had the brown sauce that typically comes on dishes like this; i would say you can tell a difference in this sauce compared to the others.
Someone behind us complained about the price after she saw her bill according to my husband. Yes, it can be pricey but you do get a lot of food.
The owner came out to greet the patrons the first time we ate there and it was nice to see he came out again today. I think it's really good to see that, not just for business purposes but because he wanted to know if the patrons were satisfied.
Overall, it was an enjoyable experience and we were satisfied...
Read moreMe and my friend were there last night. The food was ok. I had lo mien noodles with little meat in it, wasn't enough. And the entire dish tasted like plastic wrap. I'm guessing nothing is really actually fresh. I think the meat comes in frozen to keep from spoiling before they cook it, this causes the meat to taste like plastic because it picks up the flavor of the plastic bag the meat comes in. We were the only ones there. Therefore, it would make since to keep meat frozen before cooking because hardly anyone goes there to eat. We were here in the summer and it was only us and one other couple. This place is not packing. I don't like my food to taste like plastic. No, I would not come back. The meat at Thai Lanna on Bragg Boulevard does not taste like plastic. Came back to edit after owner's response. "Review based on guesses"? Are you serious?! Do you even understand what that means? When a person is sitting there eating the food and it TASTES LIKE PLASTIC, this is NOT A GUESS. A guess is when a person DOES NOT KNOW what an answer is to a question so they guess. My taste buds work fine. Your food taste like it came from plastic bags. I dont even used sandwhich bags anymore at home because after a food item sits in it after a day, I can taste the plastic it sat in. I don't even use Saran Wrap because I can taste the plastic when food was wrapped in it. Your food in the summertime and the other night tastes like plastic. Which means that the meat you use comes in...
