Love yourself today and call in an order of Barb's biscuits and gravy.
We happened to swing in for dessert after picking up breakfast to go nearby.
The biscuits alone are a stand out. If you don't like sausage gravy then try a breakfast sandwich with sausage and bacon on a biscuit.
Their biscuits and gravy basically made the food we had ordered nearby seem so bland and uninspired in comparison that I had to call a let them know that my first breakfast experience at Barbs was so enjoyable.
But the biscuit is soft, airy, fresh, but still has that desired biscuit texture. Not the typical dry and crumbly thing that most places use to soap up their watery gravy that hides how stale they are.
The gravy is a full flavored sausage gravy with generous sausage chunks, and a little peppery.
But what we really loved was that Barb Sliced the biscuits down the middle and put her gravy there and on top.
So we had plenty of delicious gravy to go with the sizeable biscuit.
That's it. not gimmicky, with mystery ingredients, just good gravy and bread.
Breakfast aside, there's always a healthy amount of variety and consistency.
The sweets are all fresh and have that extra touch that you'd expect from a local baker.
The cases on the right are different every time we go in and it's an adventure picking from the savory or limited sweet pastries in there.
Often I'll grab a savory pastry for later to enjoy with coffee on my lunch break. Or swing in with my daughter and try something new if we are passing through main street.
Today we went a little extra and bought an entire savory pie called the "irish". It has steak and veggies in a gravy with a tinge of guiness, which added more body to the flavor.
Barb and her family are all lovely and helpful and watching them work their magic in the kitchen when I sit down is a treat too.
It's a joy because they always do something a little...
Read moreWe worked with Melissa on our wedding desserts and we could not have been more pleased. We embarked on a long search trying to find the perfect pies that reminded us of one of our favorite date spots back home and we are so glad we found Barb's Pies + Pastries. While the guests all raved about the desserts we chose, we were tickled to have so much leftover after the wedding to enjoy on our own, we just love this bakery!!! Most importantly, working with Melissa was an absolute pleasure, from the tasting, to ordering to pick up. Our friend tasked with picking up our order ran a couple hours late due to traffic, but Melissa was kind enough to run back after hours to make sure he could pick up what he came for. She went above and beyond to take care of us! This same type of care is apparent in how their business is run and how their baked goodies are carefully created. If you are looking for a trustworthy and quality dessert vendor for your next event or just want to stop in for some seriously stellar desserts, Barb's Pies + Pastries is our go-to-spot and should...
Read moreWe are so happy we worked with Barb for a delicious and beautiful cake at a great price! We saved the top tier for our first anniversary, but the cake was so great it will be a challenge to wait until we can have it again! One of the most fun moments that we had during wedding planning was taking our Moms to the cake tasting. Barb had lots of samples for us and we had a great time thinking about how we wanted to design the cake and drawing up plans with Barb. She created the cake of our dreams, and we had lots of compliments from guests how beautiful, but also how tasty the cake was. Barb has also delivered many cakes to our venue at the Bellwether and worked with our wedding coordinator before so setup was a breeze. With out-of-town guests arriving and other last minute details the week before the wedding, it was such a relief that the cake delivery was something we didn’t have to think about. We’re very happy with Barb’s beautiful wedding cake and will definitely be getting our special occasion cakes from her...
