Disinterested staff, had to ask for a menu the 2nd time the waiter left the table, Food took a while to get to me, but it was decent. The salsa with the chips was watery and bland, but the beans and rice looked fresh and had good flavor, not sure what meat was used in my bistek a la mexicana, I'm used to strips of skirt steak but this seemed more like the patties you get to make cheesesteaks with, and the tortillas were handmade and great. The restaurant was clean, but they didn't have any of the TVs on or any music playing. Biggest issue was when I went to pay, First they couldn't seem to run the card. The kid waiter went outside and came back with a older lady who tried, card just kept "processing". They blamed the card terminal being slow and took my phone number in case it didn't finally process. It did before I left to parking lot, but when I checked my bank app the charges didn't add up. The menu price for my meal was $15.99, no prices for the drinks listed, but my total was $24.06. The bored, teenage waiter couldn't answer any of my questions, but the older lady says "the prices on the menu are old, my meal is $18.50, and the small bottle of Coke was $3.50. With tax it's $24.06. Told them if the menus aren't correct they shouldn't be passing them out. Now I checked my bank app and the charge they put through was $25.02. I tipped cash. Disputing the charge with my bank, and never eating there again. It's disappointing, their food was decent, but shadiness and lack of service make it a...
Read moreI used to love this place and used to go all the time... went there tonight and my boyfriend ordered the steak dinner with an extra taco and I got a #6 on their combos menu (which is only $9.99).. he also wanted the the combo steak dinner ($9.99)... we got our food and my flautas had guacamole on them normally I don't care I just scrape it off but I noticed it looked weird... they also gave us plastic forks to eat with.. you cannot cut their flautas with a plastic fork so because our waitress had not been by to check on us at all my boyfriend had to ask for silverware and what did we get!? A spoon and a fork.. no knife... let it all go... then we got the bill... it was $48 .... I don't know where that number could have possibly come from unless our sodas cost $10 each.. but we're both baffled... the food wasn't even that good.. I'm super sad because this used to be one of my favorite places to go.. and not just that but our waitress never ONCE came to see how the food was or ask if we needed another drink or anything... I really wish they could go back to how things...
Read moreI was finishing work and decided I wanted Mexican food before I had a meeting in Rochelle. I did a quick Google maps search and saw what appeared to be a small family business.
Parking was easy and the location was easy to find. I sat down and after a recommendation from the waitress, I placed my order for a burrito with sides of rice and beans.
I like it when I find a place where the flavor of the food isn't generic, but rather clearly their own recipes. El Senor is just such a place.
The food was at the table in under 5 minutes, perfect temperature and fresh and was clearly prepared for me after I ordered.
They had Spanish language music playing and the owner asked me if I preferred something else. I thought that was considerate but was happy to listen to what was playing.
It's not a fancy place, but who wants fancy at a Mexican restaurant? It was exactly what I hoped when I searched for Mexican restaurants in...
