I visited on a Friday Morning about 8:30. There were only a few other people eating breakfast when I arrived. They have a sign asking you to wait to be seated. There was no wait as the waitress was ready to accommodate any arriving guests. I was told to sit wherever I chose. The only exception was 1 round table which had a sign on it stating for 5 or more. I did not choose that table :^). I sat at table off to the side. I was asked what I would like to drink, I said coffee. I looked over the menu but was happily distracted by a table topper which offered Weekend Specials. I chose Raspberry Pancakes and added sausage links. My waitress ,a longtime employee, was friendly and has an inviting & warm personality. The Three pancakes were filled with raspberries. Think blueberry pancakes but raspberries instead. Raspberries inside not just on top like some other places. They were fluffy and flavorful. This was a great choice. They also offered Banana Bread French Toast. I am sure it is divine. I have had their Homemade ( recipe from the 60s ) Banana Bread and Iām a fan. I have also had the Raisin French toast which I loved. So the combination of banana bread & French toast, All I can say is Well done Kate's Kitchen. This is why a small place in an awkward location has lasted an become a local favorite.
*I was surprised when my bill was retrieved from my table ( I thought to make some correction) but not returned. I was informed by my waitress that someone else had paid my bill. No-one was identified but my appreciation couldnāt be more grateful. There is something to be said for small towns. I will pass the blessing on
Atmosphere Kateās Kitchen is located on West Huron River Drive (next to the train tracks) in Flat Rock Mi. There is limited seating due to the size of the building and it was clean. Daily Special signs posted behind counter on upper wall. Comfortable with a down home feeling about the place
Noise Level Fairly Quiet. Normal talking levels in a small location. There was never a train while I visited but I am sure you can hear it when it passes since it is about 30 feet from a crossing

Ā Ā Ā Read moreThere has been so much local hype about this little restaurant, so with very high expectations we decided to try it. We happened to be in the area, and we were very hungry.
When we walked in there were open tables, and employees standing around chatting in the kitchen area. There was a sign outside that said to wait to be seated, so we stood by the front door for what seemed like an eternity until finally a server acknowledged us, then told us to pick one of the open tables (??). Once we sat down we found that the booth that we chose was extremely tight and uncomfortable.
We ordered coffee. My decaf was terrible, pretty much undrinkable, and my husband said that the regular wasn't that great either, I think that it was about $3 per cup. Since it is cash only, we had to limit our order to the $30 cash in our pockets. As a rule we don't carry much cash, we use our credit cards. The prices were comparable to the major breakfast chains.
I ordered the biscuits and gravy which included 2 biscuits and a small bowl of gravy. The biscuits were dense, heavy and doughy and not to my liking. The bowl of gravy had very little sausage, and very little flavor, except for being very spicy. I have had much better, but I have also had worse. My husband ordered two eggs and ham which came with toast. He was happy with his order, but still hungry.
With the tip, it took just about all of the $30 cash we had on us. Once we were seated, the service was good and the food was ok, but I think we will leave it to those who are writing the 5 star reviews. I don't see any reason for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNot good. My husband bought a custard pie on special order for pi day. It was discussing. Undercooked, and tasted like old milk. Since custard pies are hard to make I gave them a second chance. Being a Saturday for brunch it was crowded. Instead of having multiple small tables the staff could move to accommodate various party sizes, there are lots of booths and 2 large round tables in the middle of their very small building. Noone can sit at these large tables unless your party is over 5. So 4 parties of 2's and 3's stood in the small entry way while tables sat empty. Once we were seated it took about 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order and 30 for our actual order. The food came our fairly quick, which is to expected since there were about 10 or more people in the kitchen with 2 wait staff. I should have just stayed home and cooked for my family since the food was like eating Denny's at 3am, but I was sober. Eggs were a dry rubber consistancy and my 4 year old's eggs had straw paper in it. Of course she freaked out and didn't eat anything else. The Waitress basically said oops and did nothing. How does straw paper get near the skillet? Gross. As we were finally leaving this hot rectangle of culinary hell, my daughters' of course wanted the sparkly cookies displayed in the case. Oh goodness were they horrible. My 2 and 4 year wouldn't eat more than a bite. I must congratulate them on messing up sugar cookies. One of the simplest baked good to make. Cash only and if you want to eat garbage this place is...
