After finding the Market Roost closed every time I got to Flemington for the past 6 years, I had given up on it. Last week I must have come earlier for to my surprise it was open. Forget NJ Magazine's bakery ratings. This place is a rare find. I should have photographed the pies for you. They were a long lost refreshing nostalgic trip to my youth when people baked pies you no longer see. Each being more beautiful than the rest, and the restaurant seemingly rarely open, I took home a granny Smith apple, a Montmorency cherry, and the piece de resistance trumpet flare please: pecan. They were so perfectly picturesque and beautiful to behold, I couldn't make up my mind so bought all three and what a discovery I made. No one makes pies as these. Next time I'm leaving earlier or phoning ahead and buying a whole pie. I also want to order something from their menu as anyone who spends the money and takes the time to produce pies as these must also have over-the-top dishes and sandwiches. I'm returning. Forget that NJ Magazine top rated bakery in Lebanon. There is no comparison. That may be an effort to list something in western NJ when no one thought to try the then abandoned run down Flemington. By the way, Flemington is slowly returning to meet and perhaps exceed its former self. I encourage us to save The Market Roost. Make the drive. Get there, but phone ahead or get there early. Oh, almost forgot, they sell round meringue pieces for making no calorie "floating island desserts." I floated one in a cherry soup I concocted. For those unfamiliar a floating island is a wonderful refreshing low cal sweet (almost healthy) fruit dessert found in upscale French restaurants ala Chez Catherine. Market Roost pies are going to be my Christmas gifts to family and clients this year. Photos next...
Read moreIf you want to have great service and great food DO NOT come here! We looked in and it seemed like a good place to check out, and so we entered and patiently waited to be attended to. We did not know it at the time, but we were making a BIG MISTAKE!
While we were waiting, which was more than 10 minutes, we noticed there was someone that had been waiting before we got there for someone to take her order. Apparently no one had ever acknowledged her or taken her order.
Eventually, after she gave up and left, we noticed noone was acknowledging us or taking our order. This was very disappointing.
Then another couple came in and the support staff immediately recognized them, took their orders, and had a friendly conversation with them before they completed their order and helped them to the table.
During all of this time the wait staff acted like we were NOT EVEN THERE!
That was the last straw.
We walked OUT!
Sad. The food looked like it might have been good.

Read moreThe owner was very rude. She confronted my 2 year grandson rather than talking to his grandmother, who was sitting next to him while I was at the counter giving my order, for playing with the salt and pepper shaker snatching them away and scolding him. Also service was so slow. Took probably 10 minutes or more to serve 2 pieces of pie and a piece of cake apple juice and 2 coffees. (35 dollars). There was only 1 other person there and we both commented on how slow sevice was. Bad attitude, slow sevice, very expensive!...
