A coworker of mine offered to pick up an order of these for work one night and passed around the menu. I lived in the upper penninsula of Michigan and just seeing options made me raise an eyebrow. In the UP, if you ordered a pasty, you got a pasty. There were no optional fillings. I dismissed this and figured the proprietor was just trying to increase his customer base. It's been awhile since I had a pasty, so I looked for a traditional one. Alas, the closest was the beef. A true pasty has beef, pork, potatoes, rutabaga, carrots, and maybe onions. This one had only beef and it didn't say what the other ingredients were. I was skeptical, but ordered the Beef King anyway. The following night, I got my product and was immediately disappointed before I even unwrapped it. I ordered the king, thinking it was going to be large, but it was maybe half the size of a pasty from the UP. Upon tasting, I was disappointed again. The dough was gummy, the filling was dry and bland (probably due to the missing ingredients) and the gravy tasted like it came out of a can. Whoever is in charge of the menu for this establishment desperately needs to travel to the upper penninsula and order a pasty from several different places to get a better idea...
Read moreDo not go to king Arthur bakery. I paid almost $50 for my baby shower cake and couldn't take it to me baby shower, because it fell apart literally right down the street while on Ballenger. When I spoke to the Baker this morning she bragged how she had being making cakes for 30 years and never had a problem. I guess I'm the first person this has ever happened to, yeah tf right. The cake was not properly assembled and the icing was warm. At first she said she made the cake the day before, then she said she iced it this morning. But when I called the morning of the baby shower to see if I could pick it up early, she told me the earliest she could have it done was 12 noon. So she clearly lied. For someone that's been doing cake for 30 years, she has alot to learn. I only gave it a star because it would not allow me to post my review unless I...
Read moreI had not been here in many years but remembered the pasties as being an ok Americanized version of a traditional beef pasty. I purchased two of the regular beef pasties and sides of gravy. The filling of the pasties was edible not great but ok as was the gravy. the shop seemed like more of a bakery with many types of pies, cakes etc for sale. Who ever made the pastry dough for the pasties must have thought they were making soles for shoes . It was so tuff it had to be cut with a knife and was barely chewable. I am so glad I did not buy any of the pies as I would have been very dissatisfied if the pie crust was as terrible as that used for the pasties. Lesson learned, when I want pasties...
