Baja Joe’s Coastal Grill & Cantina — Restaurant in Florence

Less-than-satisfactory experience for a couples lunch during Valentine's weekend. This place is a joke.... First of all, the place looks like it's only halfway ready to receive real customers.

Not enough seating available. In fact, the hostess had us follow her to be seated when she abruptly turned around and said we’d have to wait until she could cleaned a table for us.

Taken back by her unprofessional demeanor, I asked to go to the restroom while she prepared a table for us. Returned from bathroom to find my husband lodged between two sets of families dining not even at arms length away! My husband excused himself to go to the restroom after he stated he already ordered the drinks.

I was blindsided by the inexcusable hostess seating arrangement. I tried to take a breath and look at the menu. To the left was a family of winning crying children with mothers and to the left a loud obnoxious man with his family. I literally thought I was being punked!

One glance at the menu prices and I literally thought why am I sitting squarely in the middle of chaos to experience hell. This scene required bottle of tequila, a bottle of Xanax, and a meal on the house for a year and I don’t drink any more or do a take medication. What was this hostess thinking sitting a couple in a space of no privacy. She must need a mental eval.

I am not sure how long the restaurant will survive, so if you dine here be weary. Needless to say, I got up, called my husband in the bathroom and told him we were leaving to find better accommodations! I would have stayed home and ate a TV dinner than to be subjected to this ridiculous nonsense...

This was actually my second time going to Baja Joe’s. The first time on both Facebook and the Internet it showed that they were open but when we got there, they were not. More than a little disappointing

After your hearing a couple of people talk very positively about it. I went for dinner with family this week. They had been once previously and made some suggestions on the menu. I ordered the guacamole with Chicharron’s and tortilla chips as a starter. The guacamole was fantastic and the tortilla chips were seasoned nicely. I was anticipating that the teachers were going to be big for scooping the guacamole but instead they were small. They were actually very good on top of the guacamole to just provide some additional crunch.

I had the Carne Asada with bone marrow, which was very good. The steak was the tiniest bit tough But had very good flavor. The bone marrow was delicious. The other two meals at our table were tacos and burritos. Both looked great. They had two different choices for the beans and although the refried beans that I got were good, the other ones, that look like Charro beans were significantly better. This location is definitely a jewel with spectacular food, an amazing staff and incredibly clean (inside & out)!

I instantly knew that this was a great location for dinner as when I arrived 30 minutes before they open and there was about a half dozen cars waiting in the parking lot for the restaurant to open at 5 PM.

I was greeted with smiling faces and a helpful staff the moment I entered. Because it was such a nice day, I elected to sit outside and the views definitely did not disappoint. It was especially awesome that I got a chance to meet the owner and hear from him how they came up with such a vast and tasty menu. He essentially knew every item on the menu and gave me his expert opinion on items for me to try .

Everything looked and sounded so good, I ended up ordering an entree to eat right then and also some items from the Thai menu to-go.

For my portion size and price, I can definitely say that this exceeded my expectations. I should’ve taken pictures at the end of my meal as I essentially clean the plate.
