This place is amazing in so many ways. I think it gets overlooked because of its location in a busy shopping center, but let me tell you, it’s a true hidden gem.
The ambiance is casual, modern and cozy. The wait staff is friendly and well trained. I’ve never had an issue at this place that wasn’t handled with kindness and understanding (and by issue I mean ordering one thing and getting another - no big deal).
We used to eat at the restaurant before COVID, but these days it’s takeout 99% of the time and I can attest to the fact that there is no sacrifice in quality or quantity, as I’ve experienced with several other restaurants.
Their food is outstanding! From the garlic rolls, carpaccio and salad to start (all meals include BOTH garlic breads AND salad in the price - how awesome is THAT?) to desert, every course is mouthwatering.
We’ve had these to start (and I HIGHLY recommend any of these): the carpaccio, burrata and meatballs. For main courses, the rigatoni bolognese, promenade pomodoro (capellini tossed with fresh, roasted tomatoes with hints of fresh mozzarella), spaghetti & meatballs, penne vodka sauce, fettuccine alfredo and baked ziti. We’ve also enjoyed the chicken milanese, chicken parm and filet mignon.
I have to say that I did not expect an Italian place to prepare such a delicious filet, but my daughter really wanted it and what a lovely surprise it was when we sunk our teeth in! LOL Absolutely delicious, juicy tenderness (apologies to my vegan peeps) prepared to medium perfection. And so flavorful! Even the kids tenders and fries (you know I had to try them off my sons plate) were delicious and generously portioned.
In fact, ALL their dishes are generously portioned. Not to share as a family, but enough for you to eat well twice. Remember, you already had garlic bread and a salad that came with your meal, plus any app you may have nibbled on, meaning you will likely not get through your entire plate, unless you’re starving, in which case you should order another dish to take home LOL! Trust me. It’s THAT good.
Oh! And the pizza!! I almost left out the pizza. I know that pizza is a food over which many disagree, being that there are so many variations, but theirs is a very good pizza. I’m not saying excellent, only because I feel the dough is too soft and sags too much. True New York pizza (which you honestly can ONLY truly appreciate in NY) has more firm and elastic dough that doesn’t sag nearly as much. I mean the dough feels like it will (and does something) break off. However, the flavor is soooooo good. The sauce and cheese are proportionate and taste absolutely delicious. I’d just personally prefer a dough that was a bit more firm and chewy. That’s just me though! You may think it’s the best thing since sliced bread!
We’ve only ever had the tiramisu and chocolate cake for desert. Both are yummy, but nothing to write home about. Typically we don’t even have room for desert, so we skip it altogether.
So there you have it! If you’re looking for a fulfilling (emphasis on the “filling” part) meal, give this place a shot. You...
Read moreI usually go to the Pinecrest location for sit down meals and order take out regularly from the Pinecrest location as well. My friend and I decided to try the bird road location as we have not been there before.
It most likely was our first and last time at this location of Apizza Brooklyn.
We were sat down at a very small table near the front that is next to a large round table. The table is located in a very uncomfortable location where staff and guests are continuously walking by very close to the table as there isn’t much room. We felt on edge by the constant movement around us and we were not able to relax and enjoy our meal. We were constantly worried of someone bumping into the table and knocking plates or cups. We asked our waitress to see if we could be moved. A man I assume is the manager came and spoke to us letting us know he would move us to a table once one had opened up.
Unfortunately, we were not moved from the tiny table as it seems the manager forgot about us and other couples that came in later were sat in the booths in the back. The one time the manager spoke to us he had mentioned that it was a ongoing issue with the placement of the table we were sat at. If that is the case why not move the table to a better location or remove it entirely.
The restaurant it self is very open, so it became very loud when more people were seated and it was hard to understand what our waitress was saying.
Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. We did feel a bit rushed over all with staff looking to take away our plates even when we were still eating off of them. But we didn’t intend to linger as we felt very uncomfortable. We were in and out of their in less than an hour as we didn’t not enjoy our time there.
The food was good as usual, but the ambiance completely ruined the meal. We took most of our main meals to go as we didn’t want to stay any longer than we had to.
Overall, if you are looking for a calm and enjoyable experience I would not recommend coming to this restaurant; go to the Pinecrest...
Read moreAs a native New Jerseyan specifically from Bergen County North jersey, I'm usually critical to Italian restaurants and pizza places. May I say, Apizza Brooklyn is a must go to spot if you're looking for not just fantastic food but an even better experience. From the moment you walk in, you feel as if you've been transported straight into the heart of New York. The smell of the wood fire oven and aroma from the delicious foods hit you. The jazz music sets the mood and it's just right. Nothing like a little Sinatra and vino to set the vibe. I love it! The host staff is very welcoming and friendly and immediately feels as if your family to everyone there.
Big shoutout to the owner and the management team for consistently walking around welcoming and greeting the incoming, both new and returning, customers. This is what makes this place so great and keeps people coming back. I haven't even gotten to the food yet!
We started with an appetizer of fresh burrata which was fantastic. For the main courses we kept it simple with 2 pies. The Brooklynite and the Pesto. The pizza was just perfect. The sauce was flavorful and the crust was super soft. To finish it off how could we not get an espresso and cannoli. Simply amazing experience and food.
My wife and I have now been to this location twice and we are hooked. We'll soon be regulars before we know it.
