(Short version) Ignore the decor. Excellent dining, well worth the very reasonable price. Amazing paella and perfectly cooked snapper. You will be happy with any seafood on the menu.
(Long version) From the outside looking in, my expectations weren't very high. The lack of a crowd on a Saturday evening is typically a bad sign. It instead turned out to be a blessing. Drink orders were taken quickly promptly provided.
The menu offers myriad options, making a decision difficult. I ultimately went with the paella and was very pleased with the result. The sauce and seasoning of the rice was unique to any other paella I'd had before but a very, very welcome deviation from what I expected. The clams, shrimp, and mussels couldn't have been cooked better. The fish was ever so slightly overcooked for my liking but only barely and was still delicious.
I'm a big guy with a big appetite and the portion was perfectly-sized so I left comfortably full without feeling the need for a nap.
My father had the baked snapper and it was tender and flaky. Lightly seasoned just enough to accentuate the flavor of the fish without overpowered it.
My uncle had the fish and chips and was equally pleased with his selection. The fish wasn't overly battered and fried just enough to be crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
The fries were divine. Clearly double fried (the correct way) with a crispy exterior and soft interior, lightly dusted with Old Bay (assuming) which is always welcome in my belly.
An overall excellent experience, not cheap (always cautious of cheap seafood) but not gratuitously expensive.
If we lived closer, this would be a regular on the list of restaurants for me. I was hoping for seafood on this trip and Brother's did...
Read moreThe server took our order shortly after we arrived, even though they were really busy and she was the only server. The decor is really simple and it's not really a noticeable place but we knew it was across from Gatorz on 41. They serve beer and wine. The reviews are really good, so I was excited for some great seafood.. We ordered lobster bisque, grilled haddock and crab cakes. The couple next to us seemed pretty restless and eventually mentioned to the server that the table of 5 in the front was eating even though the couple had arrived earlier. They had a plate in front of them with one bit of food when we arrived but apparently it was an appetizer and their entrees arrived a good 45 minutes later. I noticed that that the food for that front table slowly came out over a fifteen minute time frame. My lobster bisque came out and it was so hot that it blistered the roof of my mouth. We both thought it was really good - buttery, creamy and good flavor. We waited an hour, while one party walked out, another party of 6 came in and was served quickly while we still waited. Finally after an hour, she brought peel n eat shrimp and fried shrimp. I told her it wasn't what we ordered. She left and came back and said " the computer says you ordered lobster bisque, peel n eat shrimp and the fried shrimp". We paid for the lobster bisque and our beer and left. They seemed understaffed, so I'm willing to wait longer for good food but I wasn't willing to eat something I didn't order or wait another hour for the...
Read moreSome friends told me about this little hole in the wall restaurant. To me the little out of the way places are usually the place to go. I was not disappointed. I wanted to get the 3 way combo so I could taste more than one fish dish, but I wanted one of those to be whole belly clams. Unfortunately for me as a lady on a fixed income a $10 up charge was a no go for me. So I settled for the fried Haddock and whole belly clams and though the piece of haddock was the size of my small palm and the clams were about the same. They were delicious and lightly battered and not overdone. I ordered onion rings and fries which really filled the plate and I brought most of that home. I liked that they seasoned the fries , a nice touch. My hostess was a lovely young lady named Bianca, very helpful and sweet. My server was named Andrea. She too was a lovely and very helpful and truly wanted to please me in my desires of whole belly clams lol. This is a rarity of such lovely and attentive service. I will come back because of them and the cook who was tender in his cooking of the fish and clams. I just wish the portions were bigger. LOL a nice touch was the condiments were served chilled and thats how it should be. Lemons should always be served with all seafood, which I did get , not just for the seafood , but to clean our hands afterwards since no lemon wipes were included. I have lived in New England and grew up in Florida where I did my own clamming. So I miss those days of abundance. So you can’t go...
