I lived in the capital of Mexican food, Southern California for more than 40 years. It is almost impossible to find any place that is remotely comparable. Tonight we discovered a place on the other side of the country that meets the standard. Casa Amigos in Port St. Lucie Florida is that place. First thing you notice is the decor, it’s bright but tasteful. The booths are high back which allows for privacy. I read other reviews and this place is highly rated…I understand why.
The business was brisk, but there was adequate staff to handle it, which is really saying something. Our server Sebastian was awesome, my wife has a severe gluten allergy. We asked if the chips were 100% corn. He replied right away that yes they were, but he also added that they were fried in the same fryer as flour tortillas. He didn’t need to go ask the kitchen, or a manager. He asked if we had a gluten allergy and we said yes. He told us what was not deep fried, and that he would ask the kitchen to prepare our meal on a cleaned section of the grill!!!
And as for the food, we ordered the carnitas platter. There had to be almost 2 pounds of meat, beans, and grilled onions on the platter. And the accompaniments, pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole and lettuce was delivered on a full sized dinner plate. It was more than enough for 2 people.
The refried beans were delicious, The grilled onions were on point. Sebastian even knew that the Mexican rice was deep fried, I can’t emphasize enough how important a knowledgeable server is to enjoying a meal. Let me talk briefly about the Margaritas. There must be at least 20 different choices. All made with different tequilas…which is very rare. It was delicious and went perfectly with the food. It’s obvious that the owners of this restaurant take great pride in delivering delicious food and drinks because their staff is very well trained, and having owned a restaurant myself it’s fun for me to watch the symphony of organized chaos that occurs in a well run restaurant. Don’t let the prices scare you away, the portions are worth it, and they didn’t up charge us for splitting the entree. If my wife and I are ever in this area again we will definitely...
Read moreWarning: My girlfriend and her father along with her four boys were at this establishment last night.10/15/2024 at about 6:30 pm. The service was great. The food at the moment was delicious though they thought it was delicious.
Here’s is the warning at about 11 PM that same evening two of her boys were getting sick soon there after they were throwing up and had diarrhea at 12 midnight her father started to get sick.
The same thing happened to him, the three of them were sick until 5 o’clock in the morning with food poisoning .My girlfriend called the establishment today 10/16/2024 at 11:05 am and this is what the manager told her. We don’t know if you ate something before you got to the restaurant or after you left the restaurant that might’ve gotten you sick there’s nothing we can do for you, not even to say, I’m sorry your children and your father got sick. They went on to say to please get in contact with the health department file a claim and go to the hospital. There’s nothing we can do for you with no remorse . The total amount that was spent in food was $225.97 . I can’t believe that an establishment like this would not believe what she was telling them her father missed the day of work and her children are still feeling sick. They are a humble family. They are not con artist they are not in the habit of going to restaurants and making up excuses to try to get there money back her father lives locally and she and her children are from out of town.
I would advise anyone who is planning on visiting this establishment to think twice. This has been a nightmare for her and her children, including her father that had to miss a day of work unpaid.
I write these comments because, I was a witness to everything that transpired from the minute they walked into the restaurant and the time they left and when...
Read moreThe treasure coast isn't exactly the most dense part of Florida, so when there's something / somewhere new in town, word gets around quick....and eastern Indian River County has definitely been buzzing about Casa Amigos.
Part of me thinks that their location on the front patio retail space at Indian River Co mall is prime, especially since it's right next to the AMC Theatre. But the current state of malls and movie theaters also makes me wonder...
In any case, there were more cars in the parking lot than I have ever seen there, even going back to when Fridays was leasing the space; a perfect reference for my earlier point about the location, and the overall decline of malls and theatres.
After one pleasant sunday afternoon visit though, I can enthusiastically say that I'm rooting for this place!
Festive decor and ambiance. If they don't already have some sort of live music for busy nights, I can see it as a future development
Massive, and I do mean massive menu, that simultaneously expresses the boldness, creativity, and authenticity of the ownership and chef. There must have been at least 75 food items ranging from full Mexican entrees, to Mexican Street, Mexican Seafood, burgers, and just to be safe....vegetarian! There was of course a full bar and Margarita menu to match!
Good prices, perhaps one dollar sign more than most Mexican restaurants, but more than generous portions to make up for it, from what I saw. (They have to pay that lease afterall)
Friendly and knowledgeable staff...I dare say our bartender had a real Mexican accent when we spoke in Spanish. I'll have to ask next time.
Muchas gracias amigos,...
