This BBQ is worth the trip. Tried it for the first time today. Had pulled pork, brisket and ribs. I had read some of the reviews prior to ordering and am disappointed that some people found this BBQ not to their liking. This is top quality bbq. I would put their meats ahead of Mission. The pork was moist and juicy with a mild smokiness to the flavor. No sauce was used or needed. The brisket had a moist texture with all of the fat rendered and really nice edge char. The smokiness and taste were exceptional. I tried a little of the supplied bbq sauce on a small portion but it only hid the flavor of the meat and is best not used at all. The ribs were fantastic as well. They were meaty with a nice char on the surface, fully rendered fat, firm but tender meat and pull out bones. Not sure what can be done to make them any better. Tried the collard greens, baked beans and sweet potato fries. Collards were perfectly cooked and seasoned, no pepper sauce required. Beans resembled something from a can but were seasoned with meat and other favoring and were perfectly cooked and tasty. Don't what they started with, but it doesn't matter as the end result was delicious. My personal taste would have added just a touch more of molasses and brown tangy bbq sauce. The sweet potato fries were exactly that. Fry cut strips of sweet potato deep fried with minimal, if any, added seasoning. They were exactly what they needed to be. Not too salty, and not deep fried to an excessive crunch. Bravo for this, especially from someone who struggles with high blood pressure. The above comments are my opinion and echo those of my wife, as well. I spent 17 years living in the middle of GA and attended and participated in multiple Big Pig Jigs in Vienna. Good BBQ was everywhere around us. The best was never in the chain restaurants or a result happenstance. People in the area spent decades working on and honing their craft and recipes. Jones Old School BBQ is right there with the best of them. My congratulations to you, and my thanks for sharing your wonderful food with the rest of us. ...
Read moreI tried Jones Old School BBQ twice, hoping for that Southern BBQ taste that reminded me of Fort Lauderdale. I spent around $170-200 on two visits, sampling a slab of baby back ribs, oxtail, Dino ribs, and a range of sides: mac and cheese, baked beans, collard greens, and fries.
The ribs were decent, about a 6.7 out of 10, and the sweet BBQ sauce helped cover up the lack of flavor. But the spicy BBQ sauce was overpowering, tasting mostly of scotch bonnet peppers without any depth or real BBQ taste.
The sides, however, were a complete disappointment. The mac and cheese tasted like it came from a box, with a thin, bland cheese sauce that lacked any richness. The baked beans were somehow dry and tasted like they were straight out of a can, lacking any smoky or savory flavor that good BBQ beans should have. The collard greens were overly salty and mushy, like they’d been sitting around too long. Even the fries were cold and limp, like they’d been made hours earlier.
On top of that, the service was subpar. The owner’s constant joking felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. Aside from one friendly older lady, the rest of the staff looked grumpy and seemed to have no patience or interest in good customer service. For what they’re charging, especially from a food truck, this was not worth the price at all. I won’t be coming back. The ribs are the only redeeming item, but not enough to make another...
Read moreI finally ordered my first food from here after years of passing and smelling this delicious BBQ place almost daily!
I ordered thier pulled pork basket, it comes with ff and then a side of small onion rings. I placed the order on line first and then went to pick it up since they don't have delivery.
I arrived just before my the time it said it would be ready but still waited several minutes as it seemed they only started making it when I said I was there for my pickup?.
The owners were very friendly and the surroundings seemed very clean. They have several picnic tables outside under tents for those of you that want to eat there.
This establishment is located in with the Sunoco gas station on Prima Vista right by US1 so you really can't miss it.
As for my order. It was piping hot, the pulled pork was a nice size and melted in my mouth and the taste was delicious! The BBQ sauce which I opted to get on the side because I wasn't sure if I'd care for it was outstanding, some of the best I ever had!!! My fries were fresh and seasoned perfectly and the onion rings were just meh, unfortunately won't get them again. But for my first visit it was a win and I'll definitely be back!
Note: I do wish however they offered "sandwiches". While I thought my pulled pork "basket" was a sandwich it was not. Guess I know for...
