F&D Cantina - Lake Mary, FL

My husband and I decided to try F&D Cantina Mexican Restaurant for a lunch date, and we were thoroughly impressed! Nestled in a lovely plaza right next to AMStar Cinema, it's a perfect spot for a meal before or after a movie. The exterior is inviting, with charming string lights and plants setting a cozy ambiance. Inside, it's even more stunning—romantic with dim lighting, an open and modern look, and perfect for both date nights and family outings. Plus, it's wheelchair accessible, with flat pavement leading right up to the entrance.

Once seated, we were greeted by our server, Carmen, who was incredible. She catered to my dietary restrictions with ease, making sure I had lactose-free options. My husband ordered the Mexican pizza, and he couldn’t stop raving about it! Packed with veggies, meat, and stringy cheese, it was one of the best Mexican pizzas he's had. I went with the fajita taco salad, swapping the crispy tostada bowl for lettuce as a lower-calorie option. The chicken breast was perfectly juicy and seasoned, and the avocado added a fresh, delicious touch. It was filling and flavorful—definitely a 10/10 meal.

My husband also tried the barbacoa burrito, but his favorite remained the Mexican pizza. Both dishes were beautifully presented, and we appreciated how much care was put into each plate. The general manager, B. Morrison, even stopped by to make sure everything was to our liking—a thoughtful gesture that added to the experience.

The ambiance outside with string lighting and floral arrangements was just as beautiful as inside. The bathrooms were clean, with handicap access and a baby-changing station, which is always a plus. The hot sauces on the table were fantastic, especially the habanero chipotle and the habanero peach—both full of flavor and just the right amount of heat.

Overall, the pricing was reasonable, around the $20 mark, and the atmosphere made it a perfect place for a date. Between the food, service, and ambiance, this is definitely a spot...

First and last time coming here. Immediately sat down. Take the following with the fact that it was not busy in the restaurant. Waitress came over a couple minutes later with some waters and took our order, which was a house margarita, the chicken and steak fajitas and a steak bowl. If you want chips and salsa you have to pay for them, which is unusual, but ok. We never saw our waitress again. The food came out in a good amount of time. I had to go to an empty table to get hot sauce, which was really heavy vinegar and not any spice. The steak in the bowl was the only thing hot. They put a whole can of refried beans on the plate with the same amount of rice to cover most of the plate. The refried beans had a weird taste, almost like plastic or something (not good). For the fajitas, the steak was cooked well but had no seasoning and wasn’t cut very well (3-4 pieces were stuck together) The chicken was a basic chicken breast cooked well with salt and pepper. The tortillas were about the only thing Mexican going for this food, as it all lacked those coming flavors that are usually associated with Mexican cuisine. The vegetables had a little sauté to them but not seasoning. My rice and beans were the same as above just in a smaller portion thankfully. Oh right, we ordered a margarita…it finally showed up minutes after we got our food. Initial thoughts were good and strong. I had to flag down the hostess to ask for our bill. Our initial waitress finally surfaced with our bill about 2 minutes later. Never asked how the food was or anything. The bill showed the margarita as a double house margarita (which we didn’t ask for) and explains why it was strong. Overall just bad. The ambience was decent, which was the best part of the show experience (shouldn’t be). It is for all of these reasons that we won’t be coming back, except maybe for a drink as long as they can get the...

This place is great if you hate spices & having money in your wallet. The food is like Mid-Western Church Potluck made by someone who has never tasted Mexican food. Seriously, a mayo sandwich on Wonder Bread has more flavor. We ordered chips; they did not come with salsa - just dry chips. The Mexican Caesar was greens with a chicken breast & stale tortilla strips. The vegetarian tacos were bland tofu crumbles with shredded lettuce and a tiny amount of tomato in grocery store taco shells. The Chile rellenos was unbelievably bland. It was plopped on the plate with no garnish or anything - just a black blob. It tasted like a Styrofoam cooler. Even the poblano was tasteless. Both entrees came with a ramekin with black beans straight out of a can. I had one house margarita that was made with rank-tasting cheap margarita mix & a questionable amount of tequila. Hubs had two tequila shots with lime & salt. Didn't get limes & we got charged for three, some $7, some $10. Not sure which was correct. The waitress removed the $7, of course. Asked for hot sauce to drown our bland food & they brought some peach junk & a chipotle with no heat. Total bill without tip was about $100. Do yourself a favor & drive 10 minutes up the road to El Zocalo. Food is delicious, generous portions, and reasonably priced & the drinks are fantastic! Same meal there is about $65 & you'll...

The food was really good, especially the street corn. The area is very nice. The staff was friendly as well.

If you're looking for a different Mexican food dining experience, this could be the place for you. F&D is a small upscale restaurant in Lake Mary, close to the Am Star Movie Theater. The food here is definitely different - something more along the lines of what you'd see someone concoct on a Gordon Ramsay cooking show as opposed to authentic Mexican food. I ordered the steak quesadillas, which have sweet plantains mixed in with them, in this case. Maybe it's just the Texan in me, but these are not two flavors I would expect to pair together. However, they are quite tasty. My wife had the carne asada tacos and enjoyed them as well. While the restaurant boasts a laundry list of premium tequilas to be served in dozens of different ways, you cannot order something as simple as a frozen margarita, which is kinda frustrating. The house margaritas start at $8/each (ouch!) and leave quite a bit to be desired - like adequate alcohol. My wife ordered the strawberry margarita and it really was not good - something not acceptable for a $9 drink. Aside from the drinks, my only real complaint was the price. We paid $50 for two entrees and two drinks. That's a LOT of money for not much food and weak drinks. They're free to charge whatever they think their food is worth - I just didn't think it was worth the price.
