🦜 Green Parrot: My favorite neighborhood tiki bar
I grew up in Tampa and know the area very well. Green Parrot is very close to my home, so it is a convenient place for me to go hang out and relax. I’ve made a lot of friends there over the years, and am now compelled to write a review after a recent positive experience, and here is why:
Location: Even though Dale Mabry is a busy street, the bar is very conveniently located and where it is in the parking lot is not close to the street, so when you’re outside you’re not constantly hearing cars go by. Drink Specials: they offer pitchers of beer as well as buckets, so it is a good way to get more bang for your buck. Friendly Staff: I have seen a lot of bartenders come and go, but the current staff is probably the best I’ve ever seen, when I recently got some upsetting news, everybody rushed to make sure that I was okay and genuinely cared about how I was doing. I would like to give a special shout out to Britt, she is the most attentive and such a caring person. The first time I met her, a guy that I knew kept trying to put his drinks on my tab and she would not allow him to without my permission. She also protects peoples drinks if they leave them unattended, has paid for Uber rides for people to get home safely with her own money, and is constantly aware of her surroundings. I always feel safe when Britt is working, and I know a lot of the other regulars feel the same way. Outdoor Seating: probably the best part about the bar is the outdoor patio. There’s a lot of TVs surrounding it and it’s just nice to have a beer outside and a nicely shaded area Constructive Feedback: the food is always amazing, but the kitchen hours are very inconsistent. There’s always food in the daytime, but at night it’s very hit or miss. I’d also like to see more fun events like live music or karaoke, they have it occasionally.
Overall, Green Parrot is a hidden gem of a neighborhood bar, where the staff is friendly, the wings are amazing, and the friends I have met along the way are great. There’s a reason why I come here to unwind almost every weekend, it’s because I genuinely feel...

I have been in the service industry for 9+ years. From dive bars to higher end bars and fine dining restaurants.
My girlfriend and I got off work and just wanted to go somewhere to get some bar food and a few drinks before we went home and we decided to try out the Green parrot for the first time. This was our first mistake.
We arrive at the location and are greeted by their "security" who didn't even ID us but ID'd other guests. Instead of IDing us he decided to tell me "Really dude, wearing slides. We don't allow that here. Your girlfriend is fine (who was also wearing the same exact shoes) but you're a dude". (Great first impression)
We spent 12 minutes at the bar before anyone approaches us. The bartender that approached us was the girl singing back to back karaoke songs while guests at the bar were waiting to be served. Seemed like the bartender was too busy flirting with other guests/regulars to deal with 2 randoms that walked in the door. When we finally get her attention, we order food. We asked for wings, bam bam shrimp and cheese sticks. She acknowledged our order and walks away. Comes back 6-7 minutes later and asks which sauce we wanted on our wings so she definitely didn't put in our order. When we get our order we received wings.... but our shrimp and our cheese sticks were no where to be found.
None the less, we didn't complain just ate the food. After eating we pushed the plates forward so she could acknowledge the fact we were done but instead she decided to walk right past us not once but multiple times. Instead of asking if we wanted refills on our drinks or wanted anything else she decided to sing and dance behind the bar with other guest.
The best part of the quick stop was getting the check and finally leaving. There are plenty of places within a 2-5 mile radius that give you much better service and offer you much better food. Skip this bar and go...
Read moreI'm really disappointed to have to write this review, and would gladly remove it if the manager or owner would like to contact me. My girlfriend and I visited with a Groupon we had bought. Keep in mind, a Groupon is intended to bring business in and keep it, by having a great experience. It's not just for customers to get great deals. At first we were both really excited, they had pool tables which were in good condition (I love playing) and it had a great atmosphere. However, the service we got was beyond terrible. When we first arrived, the bartender (cute blonde girl) seemed very upbeat and pleasant. After we ordered our food and got our beers, she did not once check on us for a good 15-20 minutes (I watched the clock after the first 10). Instead she spoke only to her two friends at the bar (they were clearly friends reminiscing about other people), brought them jager shots (which the bartender did not add in the computer) and ate at the bar without looking at us. 4 times i said loudly "excuse me" and got no response at all. Another girl eventually showed up (another friend), got extremely loud and at one point stood on a barstool and waved her butt (in our direction, but not AT us) in the air. Mind, we were the only other people in the bar at 8pm on a Sunday. Once she finally brought us our food we did not see her again until we were completely done with our food and my beer had been empty for well over ten minutes. I honestly thought this was going to be a regular place for us, because is the proximity to home and the prices. Unfortunately I don't think we will be going back until...
