If you want sushi that smells like Clorox, this is the place for you. We went here because the two teenagers with us were starving, and it looked like the best out of a series of fast food restaurants surrounding it. The reviews were just all right, but again, very hungry teen boys who love sushi and Japanese food in general. Normally, we can find something all right in a restaurant; the only thing I could recommend about Grill One Nine would be the cheerfulness of the server. Item by item: The Saigon Won Ton soup was so greasy, you could actually see large globules of fat floating on the top. Even so, it was relatively tasteless. Singapore lettuce wraps were served next to a "grouping" of iceberg lettuce leaves, which would have been great if they'd been cold, or fresh. Instead, they were lukewarm, and mostly limp. The chicken and nut in sauce next to them was lukewarm also, served with no spoon or fork (and pretty difficult to pick up with chopsticks). We did try picking it up with lettuce, but gave up pretty quickly because it made such a mess. Also, greasy. House salads were an embarrassing blend of old iceberg and bad pseudo-ginger dressing. Sunomono, which should have been assorted seafood and cucumber in a vinegar dressing, featured four "krabsticks", one limp shrimp, a few pieces of cucumber, a piece of what we were told was conch (but since it was tasteless, who knows...), and an inedible dressing. Crunchy Fried Shrimp Served On a Bed of Crispy Rice Noodle could easily have come out of a box past its sale date, then microwaved. More "fried" than shrimp or crunch. The biggest horror, however, was reserved for the "Sashimi-Tini". I made sure to ask what the fish would be, and was told tuna, salmon, and white fish. So they were, at least, at first appearance. When I bent over with chopsticks in hand, the main thing I could smell was disinfectant. At first, I thought perhaps the dish itself hadn't been rinsed properly, but it was actually the fish. Let me be clear. There was no "fishy" smell. It stunk of disinfectant. Clorox-like. Perhaps ammonia. The worst was the white fish (which was also not terribly white, and not very cold), followed by the tuna (two hacked pieces that could have been cut with a bread knife). I didn't try the salmon. My biggest gripe, after a completely unsatisfactory meal that cost us more than $50 before tip, was that we obviously left most of the food on the table. Even the teenaged boys left theirs. And yet, the waitress was completely unaffected by the site of the untouched sashimi, or that we'd left at least half the food without touching it. This was, quite truthfully, one of the worst meals any of us had ever experienced. Maybe they changed owners or chefs recently, maybe we hit it on a bad day, maybe there's a reason the 2-4-1 and happy hours are advertised on the side of the building. We ended up stopping an hour later and hitting a generic pizza place to feed the boys.
The restaurant asked for a response, but the only way I can figure to do that is to edit this review. We did not complain to the server except to shrug when she asked if everything had been okay. We do not know her name, sorry. The server was nice; she just didn't bother noticing that we left most of our food untouched. Please...
Read moreI honestly wish I could of left a good review.. I visited this restaurant and between me and another couple spent well over $190 dollars for possibly the worse experience I've had with food. I NEVER leave reviews man, but the money I spent felt like an absolute waste, Firstly the atmosphere outside the restaurant was not great but you'd expect as much considering we are in Pasco County, inside was lovely, nothing too flashy, chairs are comfortable and everything was clean (granted we went in right as they opened so we were the first customers) Service was quick and very kind! When we were all seated and finally got all of our food, we realized the Shrimp is your typical frozen store bought shrimp deep fried which is ok, it tasted fine with their sauce but came on a bed of "soybean paper" which was just barely edible having the texture of Styrofoam. The crunchy onion soup was awesome, We all ordered some rolls and did the 2 for 50, come to find out if you do this you better order everything or you'll still get charged for it. I'm not one for complaining and making a scene, I speak with my money by just never coming back, Anyways- My seared scallops were undercooked, and with every bite i crunched on sand, fried rice was dry and tasted like paper. veggies were tough and undercooked.. My wife's steak which was supposed to be a medium, was well done, as was my sister and brother in law's steak, which funny enough they all ordered medium. My roll was mushy and stiff, probably the toughest crab roll I've ever bit. My Brother In law ordered a Godzilla roll that he never received, finally I decided enough was enough, we asked for the check, paid, and left- No boxes, and a table full of "food", I feel bad wasting food but I also feel bad eating trash.
Funny enough, I was charged for desserts we never got as well (we requested not to get them but were still charged for it) I don't expect much man, but this was something different. Want some serious advice? save your money- you can get twice as much food for HALF the price and leave happy from Thai Samurai, or Kobe Japanese Steakhouse (only drawback there is they are far) but definitely worth the drive if you're looking to eat edible food or trying to get...
Read moreI am sad to say that we were extremely disappointed from the moment we were greeted. The hostesses were not very welcoming and debated seating despite the many tables available. For some reason, we were given 1 menu for both of us, and although we were offered drinks at the time we were seated, it took about 15 minutes for 2 sodas to finally arrive.
The waitress was either overwhelmed or just not knowledgeable. The happy hour menus were appealing, but only 1 item was available with a 15-minute wait for the 2nd happy hour menu to start. Instead of asking what we'd like in the meantime, she literally waited to come back just to let us know that the menu item wasn't available. I asked the waitress what she recommended on the menu. Although she mentioned that she didn't eat seafood, she recommended a seafood dish.
The soup and salad took some time to arrive, so by the time we got the meals, we were excited since we were hungry. Our taste buds were met with extreme disappointment. Both meals were over sauced as if in an effort to mask the appearance of the proteins on the plates. Unfortunately, my plate was undercooked and unsalvageable. I found later that the dish recommended by the waitress was sent back to the kitchen by the table next to me. (She knew this as that was her table)
The waitress did remove the dish from the receipt, but nothing else was offered. I was also disappointed to see that the table next to me was immediately brought out soup as soon as they sat down. It almost makes me feel like as if I wasn't the right type of clientele that they're looking for however I had a pocket full of money to spend and hungry stomachs to be filled so not sure why the experience was so bad. Sorry to say that was the first and last time, which made me regret not just going to get Vietnamese from the other place in that...
