This was a hidden gem in Saint Augustine was a laid-back cool environment. The park the car went inside and was immediately greeted by a smiling, happy young lady, who welcomed us to gringos tacos. She was so knowledgeable. She answer all of our questions, and then we had questions we always do lol. and actually her first question to us which made me highly impressed was what you like a margarita, and their margaritas are amazing!!! She made our drinks took the order answer all the questions and then said that she noticed my husbands rings and she said while your food is cooking your food, Why don’t you guys go next-door it is an amazing shop. I’m sure you’ll love it. I’ll let you know when your food is done. So off we went next door. Before you know it here she was popping around the corner with our food. We chose to eat outside and we devoured these tacos. They were delicious from the first bite to the last. Unique minium fresh ingredients bursting with flavor! I will definitely eat here again and recommend it to everyone. The food was unique and the service was spectacular!! We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner. I am always impressed by simple acts of kindness! The owner asked where we were from. We told her southwest Florida, and that we just went through a natural disaster and lost our home and jobs of hurricane Ian . This is not something we wear on our sleeve or discuss with every person we meet. Is he the truth is that we were displaced, and that we were trying to figure out what our next chapter was. There was nothing left to go home to her heart. You could tell immediately went out to me. She filled my margarita. Glass up, came out to talk to me from behind the counter her kindness touched my heart!! You guys please support them they are good people doing good kind things and making amazing food!! they’re...
Read moreWanted to try the newest taco place in town, it’s not great. Honestly it’s either a tourist rip off or they really need to work out the kinks more.
In Saint Augustine we have a abundance of tacos to Mexican style restaurants, if your gonna stand out you have be competitive. Sadly Gringos Tacos was not. Food was bland and overpriced, especially when we have many other options around Saint Augustine. Below I go into depth about my visit.
For my order I had 2 chicken, 2 steak, 2 Beryllia style, and ordered some chips & queso. That came to be 49 dollars, a bit on the expensive for street style tacos. Also if you want any salsa, sour cream, or even lettuce they charge a whole dollar bill for a 2oz cup. Or you get a squeeze packet of sour cream, not even fresh made. Like don’t charge a dollar for that, it’s a rip off. Not happy with them charging people like that.
Now for the taste, no they kinda flopped at that too. My chicken & steak tacos where street style, cilantro and fresh onions. No lime sadly and the tortillas were cold. Both the chicken and steak where dry, the chicken especially had not much flavor. The Beryilla was good, only saving grace of this place. I enjoyed it and the dipping sauce was hot. Chips were blue corn but needed salt, queso was fine.
When I walked in yesterday and excited to see how the old Flavors Cafe had become as well. First off seating is extremely limited, only 5 tables. It’s a small place but they did not utilize it, the cafe before had 4 booths and a few smaller tables. The decor is okay, the place it self just feels empty. Staff was friendly and where keeping the place spotless.
I’m not going back here for a bit, maybe a few months later to give it go again. Otherwise I do not recommend this taco shop, there are much cheaper and better quality places. We are not lacking in taco shops best to...
Read moreFor starters, the vibe there was very cold, and empty. No chips & salsa for the table, hard stools with no padding, tiny tables that I couldn’t fit my legs under, and loud techno music. My girlfriend and I ordered two birria tacos, one shredded chicken taco, and one chicken fajita taco. I hope you like Cholula, because the house made hot sauce costs extra. Right off the bat they were asking for a tip before I even tried the food. The food was rushed out, and brought to me in a styrofoam to-go box even though I ordered to dine in. The consommé that came with the birria tacos was awful. I was expecting a rich and fatty broth made from scratch. This tasted like store bought beef broth with tons of salt and cinnamon added. They only gave us one cup of consommé, so I guess they expected us to share one? Gross.. The corn tortillas we got had to be store bought. They were undercooked, dry, and falling apart. They didn’t even bother to use two tortillas like most places. The “fajita” taco did not have any bell peppers on it. The chicken that was used tasted dry, pre-cooked, and artificial. The shredded chicken taco was very salty, and the tortilla was falling apart as soon as I picked it up. The basic ingredients like cilantro and onions tasted old and dull. Even the soda was flat and I ended up dumping it out. To be quite frank, I feel insulted. It’s like they tried to pull one over on me by cutting corners and serving up processed junk. I know what good tacos taste like, and this is...
