HOLY MOSES I just got back from what must be the closest thing to hog heaven that exists anyplace in the state. On the recommendation of a coworker I tried Harvey's smokehouse and damn it did not disappoint. Firstly lets go over some housekeeping. Harvey's is far away. I live close to the city center, and this was an easy twenty minutes with no traffic. Make sure you know what you're getting into before you start the journey. Half way through my trip I noticed what a nice drive this was. I started to enjoy it, and while I would love this to be walking distance; the drive for good food is never too long. Once you find the smokehouse (found in a strip mall, so don't miss it) you'll feel a pit in your stomach; don't fret piglet nirvana is close at hand and that pit is about to be filled. Walking in you won't be impressed with the dĂŠcor, but who cares this is a BBQ take out place, im here for the food and not lemons in my water glass. THERE ARE ONLY TWO TABLES HERE. I've noticed some complaints but I expected this so was ready for it. When I went Chef Harvey was cooking up a storm. He came out to shake my hand and tell me about his operation. A note: when I say "Chef Harvey" I mean it. He is apparently a classically trained chef and he speaks and cooks like one. Harvey told me about his smoker, how he cooks the meat and all of his sides and sauces. All of them are freshly home made. If you have time take a look at my other reviews of BBQ places and you notice that a lot of the review is spent on sauce. Here the meat is the star. A note I feel I must tell you. If you don't do BBQ on a normal basis you'll thank me for this bit of info. There is only 1 thing you can eat catsup on at a BBQ place, and that's French Fries. There is BBQ sauce for the BBQ. Don't mess it up with the red stuff. If you do you'll give Harvey carte blanche to come out and add you to the smoker. You've been warned!!! I ordered a plate of pulled pork and it came with a slice of Texas toast and slaw. The toast was okay, but the slaw was fresh and made you wanna slap your mama. It didn't stop there I asked for a bit of sweet and tangy sauce to go with my pulled pork but I didn't need it. The pork is like woah! I don't even know how to tell you, I felt like there was some sort of cream, or sauce that I couldn't detect in the meat. It was so tender and rich that I spent a good half an hour eating and trying to figure out what was in the food. I found bits of fresh green rosemary and thyme in the meat something that I was not expecting but so happy to find. I asked the chef and indeed he adds his own spices (in this case, just like I thought, fresh hand cut rosemary and thyme and a bunch of other spices that I can't identity into the pulled pork). This is truly a great treasure that is hidden off the path. Make a trip to Harvey's and try it. Do it. I can easily give Harvey's 5 stars. There are only two things I wish I could change. Firstly, sweet tea. I come from the south (not Miami) and when I ask people for sweet tea they offer tea with sugar. That's not the same thing and when I try and explain it people look at me like im asking them to sell me their first born child. Secondly I wish this were closer. To be honest I bet this is a good thing; I would...
Read moreI am soooooo happy!! I haven't been able to eat at any BBQ joint for a long time because I have a severe soy allergy. Unless I make them at home, I can't relieve a rib craving at a moments notice. That was until I called and spoke to Natalie, the owner of Harvey's BBQ. Those of you that are allergy prone understand how bothersome it is to have to call every restaurant you want to visit to make sure you can eat there. Sometimes people are nice and are very helpful and sometimes you're treated as a bother. That was definitely not the case with Natalie. She was patient, kind and so helpful, that she even called me back to make sure I stayed away from certain items on the menu which she had gone to recheck after we had hung up. All I wanted was ribs, so anything else that I couldn't have didn't matter as long as I could have the ribs. And I was sooooo happy to hear that yes, the ribs were on the I can eat list. She even notified her staff that I was going to eat there and also informed them of what I could and couldn't have. I was soooooo happy! When Willie the chef heard we were there and already eating, he came out of the kitchen to make sure I was fine. All I could say was that I was sooooo happy! As soon as I introduced myself, to Ana, the cashier, she told me that she had spoken to Natalie and retold me the foods that had my allergen. Jarvis, the kitchen assistant, was also kind and showed concern for my well being. Not only is Harvey's BBQ allergy friendly, they are beyond family friendly. I couldn't stop saying how happy I was, as I was licking my fingers. So, if you are looking for some great (not just good ⌠GREAT) BBQ, please don't hesitate to visit Harvey's BBQ and say hi to Ana, Jarvis and...

We drove 4 hours to Homestead Florida for a family reunion on Sunday July 3, 2022. I was tasked to find a local caterer not knowing the area I just checked reviews on the web 2 days prior. The best decision I ever made was choosing Harvey's barbecue kitchen. The manager Natalie Alexander replied promptly to my request for this large last-minute catering for 54 people. Professional and courteous, she guided me through the application process in a way that made me feel comfortable. I had one hiccup with the delivery location, which, let me tell you was not even an issue because the delivery person "Carla" went above and beyond to make sure that I had our order on time and still hot. She even let me HAVE THE THERMAL delivery bag to keep my food exceptionally hot while we journeyed the additional 1 hour to the venue. Carla was amazing and so kind. She provided last minute instructions for the food and was gone. My family's response "Best food ever". This was real chicken like your mama made on the barbecue in the backyard. Soooo good ! The chicken was succulent, the sauce was flavorful, the coleslaw was light and refreshing. Do yourself a favor! Don't hesitate to call Harvey's BBQ kitchen for your catering, if you are ever in the Miami or Homestead Florida area. We enjoyed every single bite. It was truly delicious. What made the meal taste even better was their exceptional team. The seamless process and excellent customer service provided by this team made my family reunion less stressful and more enjoyable.
Thank you!! Natalie Alexander and Carla at...
