Hibachi express — Restaurant in Florida

Beware: if Allergic to Sesame Seeds…

I normally do not write reviews. However, tonight my mother had a reaction to either the veggie fried rice or veggie Japanese Noodle (Yakisoba) at Hibachi Express after ordering to go (01/06/2023 at 7:13pm).

Prior to ordering, I specifically asked to please ensure not to cook any of those two meals with “sesame seeds or sesame seed like oil products”, to which, the young lady behind the counter replied “we do not use sesame seed oils”.

Unfortunately, when my mother finished eating, she had a reaction about 10 to 15mins. later, causing me to urgently purchase some Benadryl at the Walmart off of Maricamp Road close to the shores.

At around 9pm, I went back to Hibachi Express in order to explain my displeasure. The female worker behind the counter was adamant that they did not use sesame seed oil and I was handed $10 (in cash) on a $60 order for my troubles.

Luckily the reaction was suppressed by the Benadryl and no need for a hospital visit; although, I would caution anybody that may have an allergy...

I will be honest I like to frequent here often, but I have two major complaints. One is that they will not give you free water with your meal. Yes I understand that they are not obligated by Florida law to provide free water to their customers, but I just think it’s pretty lousy practice to make your customers pay for bottled water. Also, they do not leave out napkins for customers. You have to ask them directly and they only give you two or three. This tells me that this is not a family, friendly atmosphere, my child spilled some soy sauce on the table, and I couldn’t find napkins anywhere. I also believe that that is poor practice to not give your customers access to napkins if they would like to clean up their table themselves. I went there for the first time because the reviews said it was amazing. First thing when I went to go pay the lady behind the counter said my chip wasn’t working and when I told her you need to swipe it she said no just use Apple Pay she was fussing with her machine for about 10 minutes unplugging and plugging it back in. That’s fine it looked like an old machine. I got the Philadelphia roll, shrimp tempura roll, and crab Rangoon. The salmon in the Philadelphia roll tasted like the lox you get from the store. It was super salty and unpleasant. The shrimp tempura roll was dry and had no flavor. Lastly the crab Rangoon was slimy and had a sweet but also salty type flavor it was so bad I had to spit it out.
