Island's Roti Delight — Restaurant in Florida

I’m not from FL so I came to this place last week for lunch when I was in town for a conference. I was swayed by the reviewers before me.

The owner said she didn’t have a menu, which might be a turn-off for some people, but for me, that was the moment I knew the food was meant for the locals and that it’s going to taste so good.

The place reminded me of the hole in the wall restaurants I used to frequent in NYC where you already should know coming into the restaurant what to order and they treat everyone like locals (or in this case, like family). They rib on you and it’s all in good fun. Anyway thanks to the Google reviewers and the owner who hinted at what I should get since I was so indecisive, I got the curry goat. It was SO flavorful and delicious! The homemade dip and sauce they made were perfect.

After my meal, the owner’s nephew Rodney did not hesitate for one second when I needed help finding my way to the nearest Publix. It was just such a sweet, random gesture of humanity and this place will forever remain a story I tell friends about when I talk about the lovely side of Florida. You all are real ones.

I know it’ll be another year when the conference comes around, but I will 100% be coming back to this place. And next time I’ll know exactly...

I was looking forward to trying out this restaurant this evening but unfortunately did not get a chance to do so due to the rude response I received when I called. The phone rang several times and then the call went dead. I didn't hear anyone on the other end. I called back immediately assuming the call was accidently dropped, only to receive a nasty and very rude response by whomever answered. I'm assuming it was the cook as she stated, "I answered the phone just now and you didn't answer. I don't have time for this I'm busy cooking!" I couldn't believe my ears! Like I have time to play around on the phone. My dear, if this is how you treat potential customers, then you just lost one. I strongly suggest that you work on your customer service.

My response was not pure hate. It is a review of how you handled a potential customer. As I said, there was clearly a problem with the phone connection. I didn't hear you, which is why I called back.  In any event, your response to my review only proves my point. I won't be going back and forth with you. Take the feedback for improving your customer service, or not. It's totally up to you. I just know where I won't be...

So, my family and I decided to try this restaurant since we were looking for a place nearby that makes and sells roti. From the time we walked in the door 'til the time we left, the lady who took our order was friendly, courteous, and good-humored. And, the food was GOOD, GOOD, GOOD! I had a curry goat roti and, yes, the same kind lady who took my order and served me also cooked it! So, she was basically running the whole show. My family and I didn't mind the wait because everything was made fresh and it was absolutely delicious.

For future customers, I'd say that calling in your order is relatively faster and the earlier you call, the better because it ensures that you get what you want while the ingredients are in supply. I wanted pholourie w/ my order but wasn't able to get it because the supply for that dish was done for the day. Otherwise, the food and service were wonderful. I'll definitely be returning before ending my vacation in West Palm Beach. 💚...
