Some of the reviews are unfair. This is our GoTo place for large sheets of flan for $12.99. For 7-8 years as gifts or covered dishes. Including to take down to Little Havana, we buy our flan here. We have eaten lunch there 3-4 times and it was just OK, but not horrible. Facing an important invitation at a client's home tonight, and reading some rather persuasive 1 star reviews I drove the 25 minutes to MI Isla for a new "test drive." The flans were in the cooler counter but you need to get there close to the 12 noon opening . Lots of small $3,99 cups, but only 10-12 of the larger heavy sheets. One young counter gal doubling as waitress. Hanging from the ceiling in largered Hand Writing Spanish and English--- "For 2 or more persons seated in the dining toom a tip of 18% will be added to the check " ....at the register one sign 4% Service charge for credit cards, printed, and another hand written in Spanish only, translated (I'll try) Please-- torn or soiled bills will not be accepted." OK I told the gal to save me a big flan to go. ...I ordered a large cafe con Leche and one smmal and sat down. I asked for papa rellenas and they did not have any. In about 8 min she brought me a giant. maybe 16 Oz cup and saucer. With perfect whipped foam. The coffee was A+. The tamal already had the corn husk removed but was very large and hand made. FYI the tamales and overall food at Lake Worth's Union Bakery are far superior. Give this one a B or B-. Upon reflection and before popping 13 bucks. I ordered a small portion of the flan. She brought me a cup from the same self serve bakery cooler. Wow! Nothing had changed. The ample syrupy caramel was almost, but not quite the satisfaction of the hard to find Cuban Tocino del Cielo. While waiting to pay at the register the guy in front of me swiped his credit card and was brought four large bags with Styrofoam containers of food and two foil covered baking trays like for large Sicilian pizzas. I guess someone likes their food. I am a gringo who was treated with courtesy. My mini lunch with dessert and tip was $12 and the 2 lb? Portion of flan for tonight was $12.99. Ok.Just felt you deserved an independent view. Dr...
Read moreThe food was horrible. My husband ordered a bread with pork aka Pan con puerco. The pork was refried from the day before black and hard. He literally was unable to eat it. My son ordered the fried pork dish. The chunks of meat were so hard and dry we literally bang the table with the Pieces of Meat, he was also unable to eat them... The only thing that we were able to eat was my Cuban sandwich. Which it was just regular ham and cheese with the dried old pork that they gave my husband which I had to pull out. The waitress was very apologetic and they didn't charge us for the two dishes that obviously no one could eat. But how do you put that type of food out?? Why would you serve your customers reheated old food from the next day? Which obviously you can tell by the color elasticity and condition of your meat. It was horrible we will never eat...
Read moreThis was the worst experience ever at a cuban place. I have gone to other places where they serve cuban food and they are more kind. Everytime someone from a diffrent ethnicity comes in they change their mood to a really serious one (rude). Also they added a tip of 18% when i was in a party of 2. Ridiculous every other restaurant charge when is more than 6, and they do it even if you are one person. Worst part they dont even tell you or put it on the menu. The prices are to high and they dont even bother trying to make it cuban style anymore. Just a very bad place to go. If you really want to eat cuban pizza go someplace else. Dont even bother...
