TISK TISK BISQUE: I looked forward to a nice seafood dinner in a new town, some of that wish came true.
Arrived for the day on business. And when you're in Florida you take advantage of the locale. So I ambled over to Kacey's Seafood after checking them out on Google. The atmosphere was very homey, low-key in the best way, and had a local flavor of folks scattered about the intimate table layout. So far so good.
Service was friendly and prompt, I ordered the lobster bisque, shrimp trio sampler, and the seafood scampi pasta.
The bisque was excellent! Just the right balance of lobster, cream, and chives. Yum!! Then came the shrimp trio.. and the word that comes to mind: sad.
The bland style of the plating matched the taste. Each "version" of fried shrimp tasting very similar to the next, the sauces not much to speak of.. and so instead of having three distinct deliberate flavors, it was a mediocre melody of malaise. Perhaps if they tossed on some cracked pepper, maybe a sprinkle parmesan and parsley, tried some red pepper flakes and coconut.. something, anything, to both improve the presentation and the flavor? And, unfortunately, the bland beat continued with the scampi.
The noodles were fine, just the right amount of bite and the garlic bread was.. well, it's really hard to go wrong with garlic bread. But the rest of the dish, from the more watery than creamy sauce, to the simple tasting shrimp and scallops, and the very light dusting of Parmesan cheese, were disappointing to say the least. To be clear, it wasn't bad.. it just wasn't, very good.
Maybe I expected too much, but I hold each culinary experience to a high standard and expect the best a place has to offer.. and so if this is the best of Kacey's Seafood, then I'm going to have to pass them by the next time...

With a 4.7 star rating, the wife and I were expecting a bigger leap in flavor and atmosphere. NO!!! The atmosphere is that of a regular breakfast diner... Noisey, and very cluttered with dinky and unfashonble doodads from the 80s. The music... Also from the 80s, bUt not even good 80s music.
Anyway, we tried some of the Ahi Tuna, and it came mixed with a rice pilaf that completely contradicts the flavor of the Asian food. My Gumbo was mediocre at best, and my fish tacos were even more favorless than the Gumbo. My wife had the salmon that we paid $18 for... And the salmon looked and tasted like it was made from one of the those frozen bagged Walmart salmon fillets. That was VERY Disappointing. About the only good tasting thing here was the french fries, and that's about it! I didn't try any of the fried stuff because I like my arteries free of clots.
Charging the prices they charge here with the mediocre food they serve should be a crime! I normally don't go on negative rants in my reviews, this is a rarity, but I just feel duped. That, and I also feel like I could have cooked something better at home, and I'm not a chef.
I don't know who's giving this place such high reviews, but they must not get out much. I'm highly dissatisfied with the food here. I'm sorry, I cannot recommend this place at all! If you want high quality seafood, go to Owen's or just about any other place than here.
Note: I spoke to the manager Sergio and expressed my dissatisfaction with the food. He offered no...
Read more3/19/17 - I have been trying to find a good seafood place here in Sarasota. KaCey's came up with good reviews on google and Yelp so we gave it a try. I had three in my party. Two of us got the clam strips and one the crab cakes. First the first impression walking in was like more of a diner than a restaurant. The surroundings are important to me and again, this is just my opinion. They were like kitchen chairs and table. For the type of food they serve I would have liked a little more of a warmer tone. The food took longer than usual to bring to us. The table, who cam in after us got their food first. The waitress mentioned that it would be coming soon that the clam strips took a little longer. I was OK with that I understand stuff happens. When the meal came I noticed the clam strips had a mixture of overcooked strips and ones that were not. So I had half of my clams strips over done and my son only ate the ones that were not overcooked. My husband had the clam cakes. They came slightly warm and he ate one and took the other one home. The crab cake was quite good. I was disappointed in my experience at KaCey's because other reviews were so positive. The food was good but just had some issues in the kitchen. Overcook partial clam strips, tepid crab cake. The restaurant just services beer and wine which is good for some but I am more of a cocktail customer but that would not sway me one way or another. Prices were reasonable and the waitress was GREAT. Attentive and apologetic when our meal was delayed. I am still on my quest for...
