I had no preconceptions going in - Ma likes the place - and was I ever blown away by the ludicrously delicious Italian menu and staggeringly cheap prices here. A little parking lot in a little strip mall on the side of the road, it doesn't seem like anything special from the outside. Or, for that matter, on the inside: a dozen or so tables with the requisite red-and-white checkered tablecloths, and a huge menu. They are known for their pizza around these parts, but we decided to go for other items.
The garlic knots to start? They seemed more like dinner rolls made from pizza dough than knots, but... there were eight, they were outweighed by the chopped garlic that covered the entire plate, and they were dripping in butter. This alone was enough for a very filling, delicious and aromatic dinner, but we soldiered on. A caprese salad was actually quite delicately plated, with the tomato and mozzarella drizzled with a sweet, thick balsamic. Well done here, too.
Ma opted for the ravioli, hoping not to get overwhelmed, and I opted for the Italian combo stromboli. I even got a glass of chianti for five bucks - why not, right? Well. The wine was "accidentally" served in a beer glass, with the attendant... generous pour. And it wasn't a bad wine, either! Ma's ravioli came about 9 to the plate, big pillows filled with ricotta, and swimming in a tangy, tasty red sauce. The stromboli, far from being a few slices off a big one, was the big one, gooped with cheese, stuffed with pepperoni, salami, cappicolla, way better than I make at home and even the shell was too good not to devour in its entirety. I didn't eat again for close to a full day.
The owner was running around, greeting everybody, taking orders, cooking (with help in the back), prepping to-go orders, and joking the whole time while the operation ran so smoothly. I don't know how they stay in business, but all that dinner came to less than $40. But so, so good, and half the garlic knots came home for the next day - Lenny's just blew me away for wholesome, diet-killing, delicious food in a warm,...
Read moreOk just like their menu & website informs you, this place was established in 1975 & it's family owned & operated. I am from New York which is considered the pizza mecca of the world lol. All jokes aside. There are buko pizza joints in Florida claiming to offer N.Y. Style pizza. Sadly very few deliver "the goods" & trust me I have sampled many a slice over the last 30 + years during my visits to the Sunshine State. That said, here's my non biased review. To be clear we ordered a large Neapolitan pie with sausage which was 16 ". They offer a Medium 12" & a Mammoth sized 24" XL Pie......My opinion ?......If you've seen the movie "Donnie Brasco" when Johnny Depp explains the variations of the term "fuggedaboutit" Well then here's the "skinny", if you want some killer pizza by any standards not just N.Y. then "Mingya fuggedaboutit" Lenny's is slammin'. They also claim its a warm & friendly place to dine in. They're not kidding. We walked in on the Sunday before Memorial Day & they were super busy. However, not too busy to genuinely welcome us. The walls are ornately covered in classic black & white pictures of everything & anything N.Y. related. With some extras shots as well, like a great photo of John Lennon..The Rat Pack etc.... A nice round of applause & hats off to Dan, who was really running a "tight ship" considering how much traffic was flowing at that time. Apparently there's a reason this pizza place is jumping, all the other tables were full of happy people enjoying their meals. Oh forgot to mention "props" to Jeffery who was also courteous & attentive while lending a hand serving. Lastly, If there is still an actual "Lenny" & I believe there is. Unfortunately we didn't have the pleasure of making his acquaintance. Nevertheless we thoroughly enjoyed our pizza. So will we be returning to Lenny's in the future ??? "fuggedaboutit,...
Read moreLenny's is a casual, counter-serve restaurant specializing in New York–style pizzas, sandwiches & Italian eats. It is a great little spot for some classic Italian food. The pizzas are the real standout, made with fresh ingredients and cooked in a wood-fired oven. The crust is thin and crispy, and the toppings are generous.
We ordered the large Margherita after Ray pointed out that for a dollar more you got 3 more slices. It was excellent.
The service at Lenny's is friendly and attentive. Ray was very welcoming and personable. He was enthusiastic and made great suggestions. The prices at Lenny's are very reasonable, making it a great option for a casual meal. The eating area is on the smallish side but perfectly suitable for a casual dinner.
Overall, Lenny's is a great place to go for a casual meal but I thought it was great for take out. The food is delicious, the service is friendly, and the prices are reasonable. I highly recommend Lenny's to anyone looking for a great Italian meal in Ormond by the Sea.
Here are some additional details about Lenny's: It is open from 11am to 9pm except on Fridays when it closes at 10. It is located at 1456 Ocean Shore Blvd in Ormond Beach.
