Mero Mero Cantina — Restaurant in Florida

Ok. This is going to be lengthy. We went here for dinner on a recent Friday. They weren't at all busy - not even 1/4 capacity. However, we waited over twenty minutes for a waitress to come to our table...despite wait staff routinely passing by to tend to the two tables seated behind us. After ten minutes, we walked over to the bar to retrieve our own drinks. Let's discuss the drink menu. Much like their food menu, it is a failed attempt at creativity. The cocktails are a series of bizarre flavor combinations that absolutely do not work well together. We each tried two cocktails (at $12 a piece). They were all dreadful. The flavors that should have stood out were overpowered by what should have been subtle undertones, if used at all. There's not a safe option on the list, so don't bother. Stick to beer. The food experience followed suit. Again, attempts at creativity were overdone. The unexpected flavors took center stage over the flavors of classic Mexican dishes. If they were to tone down on the surprises and not stray so far from the traditional, they might have a chance. The pepita sesame Macha guacamole had potential, had the non-traditional flavors not been so overpowering. The pepitas and a very light drizzle of the macha might have worked. But, ours was swimming in the macha, and we all found ourselves trying to get to the "naked" guacamole in the middle, which was quite good. Our dinners echoed the same sentiment. The wrong flavors were highlighted. Stay away from anything with salsa Roja...unless you enjoy your favorite Mexican dishes swimming in a dark brown smoky gravy reminiscent of stale cigar smoke. If I were ever forced to go here again against my free will, I would ask for everything on the side. And, I'd stick to water or beer. The atmosphere was ok. The serape mural outside was beautiful. Too bad they didn't stick to those inside and reject the enormous mural of a masked wrestler. That and the other numerous wrestling images cheapened the look. Sorry. I'm not a fan of the whole experience. I hope they can improve and...

So I was going to leave 2 star review but in the 10 minutes it took me to come home my stomach is killing me and I write this on the toilet, so it gets 1. Needless to say, i am not impressed and will be shocked if this place makes it a year, let alone 6 months. To begin, they didn't honor the hostess not telling me about the happy hour only at the bar, not even bar area, even though it isn't written anywhere, which was the whole purpose of coming today to try out a new restaurant. They did give me happy hour drinks but at this point I wish they didn't. 3 margaritas later not even slightly buzzed my stomach is killing me. I bartended for 8 years, those drinks were super weak. I do appreciate the well bourbon being old forrester however.

Food was meh. Queso fundido with chorizo was a complete rip off, the side plates were bigger than the skillet. Hardly any meat. We barely got through 1/4 of the chips and queso was done. Plus they burned it so I had to scrape off half the cheese from the skillet with my fork. For $16, no thank you.

Tacos were ok. For 5 to 7 bucks each go to taco shack. Drive 20 minutes and go to taco dive or Rocco's. Heck, go to the stuart taco truck and you will get better tacos.

This place wants to be an elevated tequila cantina but the only thing elevated is the prices. $110 later I feel like making the steaks I was marinating for tomorrow's dinner. I won't ever...

Mero Mero Cantina creates and serves 5 Star fine art gallery cuisine ... I am not sure what created my evening to become most enchanting ... The Gentleman I was with ... OR The Gentleman AND The Atmosphere ... Food ... The shrimp ... Oh my goodness ... You must taste their shrimp ... And their mango/pineapple margaritas ... The Art of this Artist ... Is in all their establishments ... All fine art originals with incredible messages ... The beautiful woman against the red background is the Artists version of what Mary would look like today praying ... If She were here in Spirit and Music and Art ... All expressed in Her Loving Heart .. and then your eyes realize the Artists portrayal of The Day of the Dead ... Where our beloved ones bless us.

The atmosphere has fine design and art all around and yet allows a casual classy everyday atmosphere. It's like eating Gourmet Mexican in a Cultural Ar Gallery ... An incredible stimulation of gourmet senses ... Visual and intellectual thought ... And it's so close ... I believe you will enjoy this establishment too ... Enjoy and ... Haha please tell them ... "The Group" from the South River Pool suggested it to try. They suggested it to my friend for our "first date" ... And I must say ... I was quite impressed ... I truly think you can make your own special...
