It's not 5 stars for sure. The ratings from other websites are certainly misleading and exaggerated Pro Authentic. Owned by a Japanese owner 2.Decoration Con quality service We went there on Tuesday. The restaurant had about 10 customers. There was a sign showing happy hour. However, the waitress said it was in september and they forgot to take down the sign. They quickly removed the sign but did not apologize but were very rude. My wife was pregnant and we did not intend to drink a lot anyway but felt annoyed by the attitude of the staff. We love sushi. We are from San Diego, has lived in New York City and traveled to Japan. So we know a sushi bar owned by a Japanese and the expected services. We sat on the bar in front of Mike, the chef. He had good techniques, and appeared experienced. We ordered tuna, yellow tail, eel, sweet shrimp, arizona, tampa, blue moon, miso soups, green tea and 1 small sake. There were 3 girls serving but they did not smile the whole time, very pushy unlike a sushi bar in Japan. When asked for today special, Mike gave me a piece paper showing how to order a customized sushi? Quality: the tuna looked descent, however he put too much wasabi in the middle of the tuna and rice. I could not taste the tuna w/ the overwhelming of wasabi. The yellow tail is not fresh The eel was descent better than a Chinese buffet but far from Japan Sweet shrimp was fresh w/ nice tempura heads The arizona and tampa were ok The blue moon ( blue crab rolled in rice paper and then fried) was nearly $ 12 and was horrible. Miso soups were good however a bit salty the sushi rice not the best mixed of vinegar sake was descent
Cost: It is not ridiculously expensive or cheap. You expect to pay $30 each person w/o tax, tips or drinks. 2 X as Sushi Zanmai in Tsukiji, Tokyo Green tea is not free but cheap
There are other alternatives including I ai Sushi, Kiku and non Japanese with better service. I still search for a Japanese sushi w/ solid quality in Tampa bay. This place is certainly not...
Read moreHave been wanting to try for a while and really glad we finally did, very pleasantly surprised. We got the lobster crab rangoon and veggie tempura to start off with. The rangoon were stuffed full with meat and delicious. The veggie tempura had a nice, crispy, light coating that wasn't greasy or overbearing, my only critique of it would be that I would have liked a little more variety in the vegetables, had mostly root vegetables. We got 6 rolls of sushi which we were surprised came with a sushi boat, not sure I could remember all of their names but the happy tuna and the krispy krab were our favorite. The volcano roll, which is usually our go-to favorite was a little underwhelming and not what we're used to, every place seems to prepare volcano rolls differently. Would probably try the Mike's special volcano roll next time to see if that's more like the volcano rolls we've liked in the past at other places. The atmosphere was nice, it's small without a ton of seating but they do have tables that are almost inside their own little cave, was very cozy. You can tell the decor is a little older, but the whole place was clean and free from any bad fish smell. The staff was super nice and attentive, they were constantly moving and taking turns filling up all the tables drinks. They got busy towards the end of our meal with pickup orders but it all seemed very well organized (we happened to be sitting right next to the register) and they still checked on their tables frequently. Very very happy with this place, definitely plan on coming back or...
Read moreI have been searching for an awesome sushi restaurant for the past 3 months. From West Tampa to Holiday to St Pete and several sushi restaurants in between. I would find a new place and spend the next three days trying different rolls. Maybe I was just lucky but every place I went to was good. There wasn't one that stood out over the others or one that was bad enough to single it out. I just happened to be in Palm Harbor last night and saw a sushi bar in a strip center. I ordered two rolls online, to go. Traffic was horrible so I decided to pull back into the parking lot and eat my sushi. IT TOOK ME OVER 90 DAYS AND PROBABLY OVER 100 ROLLS TO FIND A SUSHI BAR THAT EASILY STOOD OUT OVER THE OTHERS. MIKE'S SUSHI IS HANDS DOWN THE BEST SUSHI I'VE EATEN IN FLORIDA. The flavors were on point, fresh and absolutely delicious. The presentation was pure artwork. The price for the signature rolls is just a little higher than the average sushi bar but I was pleasantly surprised to see that the portion served is close to twice the size of all the other competitors. If you like sushi then Mike's Sushi Bar is the place to go. It is a definite 5 star sushi bar and you won't be disappointed. I'm looking forward to going back...
