I have gone to Mon Paris for years through many owner changes and am sorry to say that with the current set of owners, we will not return. They used to stock baked goods from Andre at Aux Delices (true, French-quality pastries and quiches) but that partnership has clearly ended and the food quality at Mon Paris has tumbled downhill.
I ordered a quiche and when I cut into it and flipped it over, the bottom crust was so raw I could scrape it off with my knife like a paste. When I brought this to the staff's attention, the woman in charge tried to argue with me that the crust was not in fact raw because "it was cooked yesterday." After explaining that one cannot make a quiche without blind baking the crust because the bottom would always be raw, she got defensive and said that they had made them this way since they opened, as if that made it okay. Oof. This is totally unacceptable from a place advertising itself as a French bakery.
The side salad the quiche came with was supposed to be served with balsamic dressing but inexplicably had thick ribbons of mustard squirted over the top that were not disclosed on the menu.
There is one unfriendly and uninterested server that manages to make you feel like an imposition. She forgot about a cappuccino that was ordered and my dining partner had to go back up to the counter to remind her. When she brought it out, it came already mixed with sugar and topped with cinnamon and cocoa powder, again, none of which were warned about on the menu or by the server herself.
After the raw quiche debacle, I ordered a replacement sandwich. It was made with bread that seemed just like the flavorless pre-made freezer ones from Costco. It was not fresh and did not have the texture, crust, or taste of a proper baguette, whose dough needs to have a slow fermentation to develop its flavor and characteristic irregular holes.
To top it all off, we caught the woman in charge vaping in the kitchen! This is illegal in the state of Florida.
I strongly encourage you to avoid Mon Paris and pay a visit to Aux Delices instead to pick up actual, fresh, high-quality...
Read moreHonestly this place was the worst food and one of the worst service experiences we have ever had. To order you have to order at the counter and then sit (which is fine but the way this place is set up and run is wasn’t working out for them. The woman at the counter was honestly trying her best and was basically the hostess/cashier/server/coffee maker. Too many tasks for one person. It took a good minute to place our order since she was also serving other customers inside and outside the cafe while trying to ring up orders on the screen. Once we finally got the order placed we took a seat and waited patiently for almost an hour. During our wait we were really hoping the food would make up for the terrible service, but that was not the case. Our food finally delivered almost an hour later and the lady from the kitchen brought it out. My wife ordered a crepe with cheddar cheese in it and I got a quiche (the quiches were pre made and were just heated up) After the lady put our food down she said “I accidentally used Swiss cheese instead of cheddar in the start so I just mixed both cheddar and Swiss hope you don’t mind” We just said it’s okay because at this point we just wanted to get out of there and weren’t gonna wait for another hour. Both our dishes tasted pretty horrible. The coffee and hot chocolate that we had ordered was also disgusting. We have never before left a restaurant or cafe without finishing our food but it was just not good. We were honestly surprised by how busy this place was especially when almost all the customers seemed to be unhappy or having some sort of argument with the staff. While reading other reviews it seems like we’re not the only ones with a bad experience here. Hopefully the owners try to train the staff to be nicer, cook better and work in a better process of running the place.
To respond to the reply: My review was for a couple days ago. I guess employees were sick then too. Other reviews from this week are basically the...
Read moreMon Dieu! I ordered the two Belgian waffles, thinking I would get two Belgian waffles. Each of these was about a quarter of the size of any I have had elsewhere. Maybe this is common in this part of the country (I have only had Belgian waffles in New England, and in the Midwest), but they are tiny. The disappointment increased when I tried to eat one as it seemed like I was crunching cane sugar that had not fully dissolved in the mixing.
The consistency of the eggs was not something I have ever experienced before – I really don't know what to say because I've never seen that preparation nor presentation but, instead of the typical method of slightly whisking the eggs just enough to hold them together, and making a lovely scramble or omelette, these appeared to have been diced - along with the molecule-sized pepper pieces, at high speed by some very sharp blades and they did not hold together such that I wanted a spoon instead of a fork. Nor have I seen the bacon used to indicate, "this marks the spot" - there certainly was no treasure underneath. The price for the dish was a bit more than what I would pay at an average restaurant and not nearly as good.
Having, at one time, spent four months in Paris, I expected a lot more. The croissant tasted nothing like a French croissant but was very much like a typical American croissant made at a bulk bread bakery. The eclairs were less than half the size of what I used to consume in Paris. Maybe some of the other pastries would have proven themselves had I had the opportunity to try them.
The café mocha was halfway decent. In summary, I was very excited when I thought I had found a real French restaurant and bakery, but walked away sorely disappointed. Supposedly, this place is the product of a Frenchman but that's...
